What The F…k!  Deadpool Is Plastered With The F Word, What Was The Censor Doing?

While the Censor Board Of Film Certification(CBFC) has removed obscenities/taboo words  like ‘a..hole’, ‘blowjob’, ‘motherf…r’. ‘di.k’ and ‘co.k’ and ‘bit.h’  from this week’s blockbuster Deadpool, the CBFC has allowed the word ‘f…k’ a free rein in the   film.

Says the censor chief Pahlaj Nihalani, “We were aware of the ‘F’ word recurring in the soundtrack. There was no way we could remove them without affecting the dialogues. The word is used like an exclamation, how we use ‘Arrey’ or ‘Oh Teri!’ in Hindi and not as an abuse.”

Nihalani says the context of the  abusive terms dictates whether they go or remain. “We can’t be rigid about the use of cuss words. If the ‘f..’ word is used repeatedly as a term of exasperation or exclamation we can’t remove it from the entire film.”

Apparently pirated copies of Deadpool are being consumed by Indian audiences who want to see the full-length feature film.

Quips Nihalani, “So now we at the CBFC are being blamed for piracy. If a few verbal and visual cuts in Deadpool could be encouraging piracy then imagine what would have happened if we had cleaned out the ‘f’ word from the entire film. We would have probably been blamed for the film under-performing in India.”
