When this Eid director Ali Abbas Zafar’s Sultan opens for his fans there will be  more of him to enjoy than usual.

At 2 hours and 50 minutes Sultan  clocks at being one of the longest film of Salman’s career. It’s also one of the most gripping films of Salman’s career.

…..Or so says Salman’s unsparingly critical father writer Salim Khan who has been granted the singular privilege  of watching the film before its release.

So far producer Aditya Chopra has never allowed anyone access into a Yash Raj film so much before release. Salim Khan had expressed a wish to to view Yash Raj’s 2012 Salman Eid release  Ek Tha Tiger. But he had been politely  rebuffed.

Speaking about the film’s inordinate length and Salim Khan’s reaction to it the director  Ali Abbas Zafar is unfazed, “When I  showed the film to Salim Saab he said something that gave me immense confidence. He said, ‘You’ve been able put more on the screen more  than you put on paper(in the screenplay).’ Coming from a writer of his stature that was an immense boost for my selfconfidence.”

Ali Abbas Zafar  won’t be watching his film on July 6 with the rest of the cast and crew. He has made a promise to his parents in Dehradun to be with them to watch the film. Right after Sultan opens he rushes home.

“My family has no connection with the film industry. My parents won’t come to Mumbai even for something as important as Sultan. They told me, ‘You come to Dehradun to watch it with us’. So I am off to be home with my parents the day after Sultan releases.”
