10 Hair Transplant Examples in Hollywood: No One Is Beating Our Spider-Man Andrew Garfield

When it comes to Hollywood, appearances matter a lot, whether you like it or not. Over the years, hair transplant procedures have become a quiet trend in the entertainment industry, giving actors their confidence back. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with wanting to look your best, is there?

Actors don’t usually like talking about their hair transplants, but luckily, experts with eagle eyes can spot exactly what they could have gotten done. From small touch-ups to complete transformations, let’s take a look at 10 Hollywood celebrities who are rumored to have embraced this side of medical advancement, including Andrew Garfield.

1 Andrew Garfield

Everyone’s favorite Spider-Man had a tough time saving people’s lives, and the stress showed in his hairline. According to Heva, a hair clinic in Turkey, Andrew Garfield showed the first signs of hair loss in 2009, starting from his temples. While 2010-13 may not see much of a difference in his hairline, experts were able to pinpoint the beginning of a widow’s peak.

Then in 2018, Garfield’s hairline began receding at a quick pace, which was slyly hidden thanks to his hairstylist. The next year, the recession became even more obvious, and Garfield was deemed a Norwood 3 (scaling system for baldness). He was a Norwood 2 in 2009.

In order to restore his hairline, Wimpole Clinic guesses that Garfield probably got himself a Follicular Unit Extraction, or an FUE of around 1000-1500 grafts, since the hair loss wasn’t as drastic as seen in others.

2 Tom Hanks

As per Heva, Tom Hanks‘ hair transplant seems obvious to the naked eye, despite the actor never confirming it himself. Apparently, he kept things subtle and got a hair transplant only where the thinning was more visible, which is around the hairline and his temples.

He most probably opted for a minor Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) surgery and had 3000-3500 grafts of hair transplanted in his temples, and had the surgeon retouch his hairline. This allowed him to have a natural-looking change, all while not disturbing his eye.

3 Kevin Costner

Like others, Kevin Costner never openly discussed his hair transformation with the public, but the early 00s saw a drastic change in his hairline, leading us to believe that he had a transplant.

Wimpole Clinic claims that Costner showed signs of androgenetic alopecia in his early 30s, which proves that he couldn’t have revived his hairline with medications/therapy, especially not in 2006. His hairline had receded to the top of his head, and a bald spot was also visible on his crown.

Thus, the clinic came to the conclusion that he had a permanent hair transplant, a simple yet effective surgery.

4 Nicolas Cage

The Daily Mail pointed out that the Valley Girl actor was seen with a head full of hair during the Los Angeles premiere of his film, Drive Angry 3D (via Belgravia Centre). On the other hand, two years prior to the premiere, Nicolas Cage looked like his hair was thinning. The report added that he had “suspicious shading around [his] hairline“.

As per the outlet’s conclusion, Cage was said to have undergone a hair transplant, but experts at the clinic believe that he simply followed a hair loss treatment course.

However, Heva Clinic also states that the most probable answer to Cage’s hair loss solution was a transplant. They mentioned the emergence of a widow’s peak and added that Cage kept the transformation to a minimum. The clinic believes that he, too, had an FUE, where 2500 hair grafts were planted.

5 Steve Carell

Now, Steve Carell is an obvious one, even if he hasn’t ever confirmed it. In fact, you can easily see the change in his hairline in his highly popular sitcom, The Office. This is Carell in the comedy show’s pilot episode:

The difference in his hairline is pretty evident in these photos, making fans believe that their favorite comedy actor may have had a little something-something done to his hair.

As per Wimpole Clinic, it is speculated that Carell, like many on this list, used the FUE technique to gain his hair back and look dapper as the World’s Best Boss. It’s possible that the transplant called for 1000-1500 hair grafts.

6 Justin Bieber

Justin Bieber celebrated his 31st birthday in March. Recently, he has sparked speculations about a hair transplant, thanks to his recent photos giving us a better look at his hairline.

One of the top plastic surgeons in the country, Dr. Gary Linkov, gave his two cents on Bieber’s possible hair transformation, stating that the singer has a “very low kind of hairline on the sides.” With his expert opinion, Dr. Linkov was able to come to the conclusion that the Peaches singer has undergone a hair transplant. Comparing the photos of Hollywood’s favorite chef from the late 00s to today, it’s easy for fans to believe that he has had a hair transplant. According to Wimpole Clinic, Gordon Ramsay may have gotten one in 2011 and one in 2014. They also claimed that he probably suffered from male androgenetic alopecia, aka male pattern baldness.

In 2011, the chef was seen exiting a hair transplant clinic in Beverly Hills with a scrub cap and bandages wrapped around his head. Now, he sports a fuller head of hair and a natural-looking hairline. It’s a possibility that Gordon opted for an unshaven FUE technique to restore his healthy hair.

John Cena

Now, this is one celebrity on the list who has been open and unapologetic about his hair transformation journey. Talking about why he got a hair transplant, John Cena told People, “As I was trying to hide my hair loss, the audience was bringing it to light. I saw their signs that said ‘The bald John Cena.’ They pushed me into going to see what my options were.”

He adopted a hair care routine that included red-light therapy, minoxidil, vitamins, shampoo, conditioner, and a transplant in November 2024, which “changed the course” of his life. Needless to say, the results were pretty impressive.

Bradley Cooper

Heva Clinic claims that Bradley Cooper‘s hair loss began in his early thirties with thinning, adding that the actor got his first hair transplant in 2008. From the thinning of his hair to having a hairline that is denser and natural, Cooper’s transformation is pretty visible.

To compare, take a look at Cooper’s hairline during a 2007 interview for his film, Wedding Crashers:

A difference is clearly visible! Heva’s expert opinion claims that the Marvel actor possibly got about 1500 grafts to fix the issues with his hair.

Jamie Foxx

Last but not least, Jamie Foxx. He, too, has never accepted whether he had a hair transplant or not, but Wimpole Clinic is convinced that the actor probably had at least two transplants so far, one in 2004 and one in 2014.

The clinic noticed that Foxx began struggling with a receding hairline in 1999. In 2003, his hairline seemed to be lower, and it looked like the hair around his temple area had increased. This only got better by the next year when he sported a completely new hairline. As per the expert opinion of the clinic, Foxx probably had an FUT transplant in 2004 and an FUE in 2014.

At the end of the day, hair transplants are becoming more and more common, not only in Hollywood but around the world. While there seems to be a stigma around it, we don’t think it’s a crime to want to look good in your eyes. Just like these celebrities, we can all embrace modern solutions to our problems!
