The John-Akshay War Hots Up!
Dosti be dammed. It’s an open war between Akshay Kumar and John Abraham this week at the box office. While the competition was earlier seen to be that between unequals, John Abarahm’s box office stature has grown with his last release Parmanu which turned out to be the surprise success of the year.
A representative of a major multiplex chain says the competition between the two is fierce. “As far as the number of screens and audio goes there is a fierce competition. Initially Gold had the advantage because of Akshay Kumar (starring in the film). But as the time approached for release, the advance booking for both Gold and Satyamev Jayate was equal. In fact, Satyamev Jayate has an edge now as far as the advance booking is concerned.”

With the two powerful production houses Excel Entertainment and T Series, going all-out to promote and market their two premium products this Independence Day it looks like it won’t be a cakewalk for either film.
Apparently, Akshay Kumar is not the least bit pleased with this unwanted clash.
A source close to the development informs, “Gold was given the Independence Day slot long before Satyamev Jayate was brought into the same slot for release. Akshay did try to reason with the Satyamev Jayate team. He has earlier during the year graciously backed out of the Republic Day slot with Padman for Padmaavat. This time again he saw no reason for the clash. And when it couldn’t be averted he sees no reason to take on the competition headlong.”
It remains to be seen whether one of the two Independence Day releases suffers for the clash. Finally, it is the strength of the content and not the persuasive marketing that determines the box office fate of a film.
