Stone Won’t Be The Only Original Librarians Character Returning For The Next Chapter, Promises Showrunner

According to showrunner Dean Devlin, The Librarians: The Next Chapter could feature cameos from The Librarians characters other than Jacob Stone. Although Noah Wylie’s Flynn Carsen may not be returning any time soon, The Librarians viewers can still look forward to familiar faces returning for The Librarians: The Next Chapter.

Speaking to Screenrant’s Grant Hermanns, The Librarians: The Next Chapter showrunner Dean Devlin confirmed that characters from the original series could make cameo appearances throughout the first season. As it is, Christian Kane’s Jacob Stone has played a major role in The Librarians: The Next Chapter, as noted by Devlin. He adds that this opens the door for more players crossing over to the new show, but don’t expect Carsen to appear anytime soon. Read his full quote below:

“Well, Jacob Stone has been the one who’s allowed them to have this six months to try and clean up the mess they made. But it is tethered to The Library. So, there are things you’ll see over the course of the season where the paths of the two shows collide…I think [Noah Wyle’s] holding out a little bit, but we will see some other faces from the original show.”

The Librarians: The Next Chapter Will Feature Characters From The Librarians

The Spinoff’s Showrunner Promised Further Character Cameos

Although the showrunner didn’t explain exactly how the original and new storylines would intersect, this remains an exciting development. While the spinoff introduces a fresh group of heroes, Devlin’s comments prove that the legacy of the original team is still deeply connected to the story of The Librarians: The Next Chapter. His claim that their new plot is “Tethered to The Library” implies that some narrative links will bridge the gap between the two shows.

The Librarians: The Next Chapter Trailer Introduces 4 New Heroes & Magical Adventures In Sequel Series

The trailer for The Librarians: The Next Chapter arrives nearly a year after the sequel show was pulled by The CW and picked up by TNT.

Thus, fans can expect moments of crossover between The Librarians: The Next Chapter and its predecessor well before The Librarians: The Next Chapter season 2 gets underway. Although the new heroes need time to get established, future episodes could bring the old and new teams together on shared ground. Hopefully, however, this won’t take attention away from the spinoff’s core cast, including its new protagonist, Callum McGowan’s Vikram Chamberlain.

In any spinoff, there are always concerns that returning characters could outshine the newcomers. For The Librarians: The Next Chapter to succeed, the new cast must be central to the show’s identity. Thus, it is arguably good news that Noah Wyle’s iconic Flynn Carsen is not set to appear right away, as he could easily overshadow the new heroes. However, The Librarians: The Next Chapter’s links to the original show aren’t a bad idea more broadly, and these could be great for the show’s future.

Devlin’s comments imply that The Librarians: The Next Chapter will mostly be focused on building its own mythology and heroes with the help of the franchise’s existing lore.

Honoring the legacy of The Librarians without being beholden to the original show is a careful balancing act, but strategic season 1 guest roles could bring back longtime viewers unsure of the new series. Although legacy cameos can provide connective tissue to The Librarians, Devlin’s comments imply that The Librarians: The Next Chapter will mostly be focused on building its own mythology and heroes with the help of the franchise’s existing lore.
