Murder In A Small Season 2 Town Gets An Exciting Update Ahead Of Its Fall Debut

The Canadian crime series Murder in a Small Town has been renewed for a second season, and fans of the show will be delighted to hear that the second outing includes more episodes than ever before. Murder in a Small Town season 2 has some big shoes to fill. Based on the Alberg and Cassandra Mysteries by author LR Wright, Murder in a Small Town season 1 followed former Minneapolis Detective Karl Alberg as he relocated to a small, quiet coastal town to take a break from solving crimes in the city.

Of course, the arrival of Rossif Sutherland’s Karl Alberg happens to coincide with a spate of grisly unsolved murders. As the bodies pile up and the seemingly sweet town reveals its dark secrets, Alberg teams up with Kristin Kreuk’s kind local librarian, Cassandra Lee, to find the culprit. Although Murder in a Small Town season 1’s ending wasn’t perfect, the finale did leave viewers wanting more from the show. Fortunately, that’s exactly what they will get, according to Matt Webb Mitovich of TVLine’s column Matt’s Inside Line:

“Season 2 of the Fox drama will span 10 episodes — a whopping increase of 25% from Season 1!”

Murder in a Small Town Season 2 Will Have 10 Episodes

Season 1 of the Canadian Crime Drama Had Only 8 Episodes

According to Webb Mitovich, Murder in a Small Town season 2 will boast 10 episodes as opposed to season 1’s eight outings. Murder in a Small Town season 1’s finale left a lot of questions unanswered, so it makes sense that season 2 is using more screen time to expand the show’s story. Not only that, but the central relationship at the core of the series needs this room to breathe.

There are nine novels in Wright’s Alberg and Cassandra Mysteries series, released between 1985 and 1997.

Although Sutherland and Kreuk have great chemistry, the season 1 relationship between their characters couldn’t help but feel a little rushed as the show tried to balance a murder mystery with a romance subplot. Fortunately, there are nine novels in Wright’s Alberg and Cassandra Mysteries series, released between 1985 and 1997. As such, Murder in a Small Town season 2 can choose from a diverse array of stories to adapt.

Our Take On Murder in a Small Town’s Longer Season 2

Alberg and Cassandra’s Blossoming Romance Deserves More Time to Shine

Murder in a Small Town season 2 needs to prioritize the relationship between the two main characters before the next murder mystery begins. Giving the pair a breather between seasons will allow viewers to see them happy, which organically heightens the stakes when the next victim is discovered.

Murder In A Small Town Finale Cheapens Karl & Cass’ Romance (But It Didn’t Have A Choice)

Murder in a Small Town has a lovely romance, but Karl and Cassandra rush their love story in the season finale. Still, it was a good choice.

For Murder in a Small Town season 2 to outdo its predecessor, the show needs to have an even more immersive, compelling mystery at its core. Fortunately, that shouldn’t be too difficult now that Murder in a Small Town season 2 has more episodes to work with than its predecessor.
