Before Superman, David Corenswet Was The Perfect Movie Jerk In This $372 Million Summer Blockbuster

David Corenswet is poised to become a big star with the debut of Superman, but the actor has already appeared in a big summer blockbuster as a much less heroic character. Corenswet is the latest actor to play Superman, following the likes of Christopher Reeve, Brandon Routh, and Henry Cavill as the cinematic takes on the character.

Corenswet also has the added honor of being the first big-screen hero in the new DCU, headed by Superman director James Gunn. Despite playing such an iconic character in one of the biggest movies of the summer, Corenswet is a relatively new face in Hollywood, appearing in smaller roles in the likes of Pearl and We Own This City.

While Superman is certainly the biggest movie Corenswet has had, he has had experience with some of the massive tentpole filmmaking. Also, as a testament to his versatility as an actor, one of these big earlier roles saw him playing a much less likable character than the Man of Steel.

David Corenswet Played A Supporting Antagonist In Twisters

Corenswet Played Scott In The 2023 Blockbuster Sequel

One of David Corenswet’s earlier roles where audiences might have first seen him was the blockbuster sequel Twisters, released in 2023. Twisters is a follow-up to the classic 1990s disaster movie Twister, starring Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt. Like the original film, the sequel follows stormchasers who put themselves in the paths of destructive tornadoes, hoping to understand them better.

While the tornadoes are the big threat of the movie, Scott is the most prominent human antagonist in Twisters.

David Corenswet is part of the ensemble as Scott, the business partner to Javi (Anthony Ramos), who looks at the destruction of tornadoes as a financial opportunity, helping investors purchase tornado-damaged land at low prices. While the tornadoes are the big threat of the movie, Scott is the most prominent human antagonist in Twisters.

Superman Star David Corenswet, 31, Offers High Praise To Former Man Of Steel Actor Christopher Reeve

The DC Universe’s Superman, David Corenswet, opens up about how much he looks up to Christopher Reeve and how he connects with the former DC star.

Corenswet plays the ideal movie jerk in Twisters, filled with smugness and callousness, despite the devastation he is witnessing. There are not a lot of layers to Scott as seen in the movie, but Corenswet also avoids making him a cartoonish villain. In many ways, Corenswet’s Scott is a modern version of the original Twister character, Jonas (Cary Elwes).

Twisters’ Cast Is A Big Reason It Works So Well

Glen Powell And Daisy Edgar-Jones Lead The Sequel’s Cast

With David Corenswet becoming a leading man in his own right in Superman, it is a lot of fun to see him in this earlier role. However, it is not surprising that a member of the cast of Twisters went on to book such a major role, as the excellent ensemble really elevates this above the typical disaster movie fare.

Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones lead the movie as the heroes, and their chemistry is so good that fans expressed anger when their kiss at the end of Twisters was omitted from the final cut. The film helped to solidify them both as up-and-coming Hollywood stars, but their supporting cast in Twisters further adds to the blockbuster.

Anthony Ramos has a layered role as Javi, torn between his desire to help people and Scott’s influence on how they will get their funding. The colorful cast of stormchasers also includes Brandon Perea, Katy O’Brien, and Sasha Lane.

Similar to the original movie, with supporting roles from Philip Seymour Hoffman and Jamie Getz, the chemistry of the actors makes it more than just wild weather scenes. In fact, the chemistry is apparent in one charming set video showing the reaction of the Twisters cast when Coresnswet was cast as Superman.
