“The hardest part of SNL…”: Andy Samberg Didn’t Mince Words When Comparing Brooklyn Nine-Nine to Saturday Night Live

While comedy is his bread and butter, along with his personality, Andy Samberg once revealed that working on Saturday Night Live was a tougher gig than it was on Brooklyn Nine-Nine. And the simple reason for that is convenience.

The multi-talented comedian, actor, and writer has had success with both shows, but he felt it was more challenging to work at SNL as a writer, simply because he was the one creating the scripts. In an interview (via North Texas Daily), he said that getting a script in your hand was easier than making it yourself.

It’s better in that, for me any way, it’s much less stressful because the hardest part of ‘SNL’ was having to create something new every week.

And this cannot be further from the truth. In fact, the star said that he has no problem getting a script every week with the comedy material to flesh out and forgoes the thinking process entirely.

Andy Samberg Found Doing Brooklyn Nine-Nine Easier Because of the Script

It’s a surprise to no one that comedy is hard, which is why just a good sense of humor is not enough. But even for someone as talented as Andy Samberg, there’s only so much he can cook up in his mind before it starts to get a little exhausting.

That’s why he said in the past that working on NBC’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine was a breeze in comparison to working on Saturday Night Live. When we get down to it, coming up with your own material is hard, with many uncertainties that follow. But when you’ve got a script in hand, you just have to act it out.

And since SNL has been going on for half a century at this point, the curse of repetition is always bound to follow, which puts even more pressure on a creator, becoming an exhausting process soon enough.

Thus, since the show had multiple writers working on it without any effort of creating new jokes every day to worry about, Samberg could put all his passion behind his physical performance, knowing that whatever comes. could be improvised and worked on better.

Reasons Why No One Could Replace Andy Samberg as Jake Peralta in the Show

Samberg may have liked the gig because of the ease of scripts, but we can’t take away from him has his love for the character. Just like any exceptional performer, the star put his all behind this goofy, yet highly ambitious cop with a wild sense of humor.

And this is where his sense of humor comes into play in full effect. Since his mind wasn’t diverted with creating comedy bits, he could channel his humor into the character in other aspects, like dialogue delivery, body language, and tonal shifts.

And with a combination of all these things, it’s safe to claim that no one else could’ve brought Jake Peralta to life better than Samberg. Do you agree? Tell us in the comments down below.
