Warning: SPOILERS ahead for Smoke episode 5!Smoke episode 5 featured a horrifying ending twist, one that might just change the Apple TV+ crime thriller series for the rest of its episodes. Episode 5 saw many important moments for the characters in Smoke, from Dave cheating on Ashley with his ex-wife and Michelle learning from Ezra what the arson investigator’s true nature really is.
While Smoke‘s true story inspiration wasn’t as dramatic, the TV show itself has managed to ensure there are plenty of unpredictable moments in the story. Smoke‘s major twists have kept the series fresh, making it impossible to predict what kind of wild events will play out. The end of episode 5 provided one twist, and may have sealed Dave’s fate.
Dave’s Fate Is Unknown After Smoke Episode 5’s Deadly Car Crash
Dave Could Be Seriously Injured After Episode 5’s Ending
In the final minutes of Smoke episode 5, Dave is called in by Harvey, who wants him to investigate a new fire set by Freddy. The fire resulted in two deaths, making it one of the deadliest thus far. Smoke episode 4 sees Jurnee Smollett’s Michelle make a surprising discovery, perfectly setting up how she’s finally going to take Dave down.
However, he doesn’t make it there; instead, a woman in a red truck barrels into his car, causing a devastating crash. The woman had been previously featured in the episode drinking while driving, a potential explanation for why she didn’t see Dave. It wasn’t his fault that he ended up in the crash, but he’s unconscious when the episode ends.
The extent of Dave’s injuries is unclear, but it seems like the woman in the other car might be dead. Since he wasn’t at fault, it’s unlikely he’s going to be charged with anything for the tragic incident. However, that doesn’t mean there won’t be consequences, not only due to his injuries, but because of what might happen afterwards.
Why Dave’s Car Crash Could Have Big Repercussions (Even If He Lives)
There Could Be Proof In His Car That He’s The Other Arsonist
Since Smoke has four episodes left, Dave will likely be fine, even if he sustains a few injuries. However, when he’s inevitably taken to the hospital, someone could discover proof that he’s an arsonist. While Michelle knows Dave’s crimes because of her own evidence, someone else could discover any extra incendiary devices he has after burning down the store.
While it’s unclear if he had any extra devices with him, it’s very possible that he did. This could finally be what gets him caught, especially if Michelle arrives and manages to search his car without him knowing. With this latest twist, Smoke may have confirmed that Dave’s crimes are about to enter the public spotlight sooner than expected.
