Jeffrey Combs is known for his tenure in Star Trek, where he has played nine different roles, but one of his best roles remains his vocal performance as The Question in Justice League Unlimited. Combs played a variety of roles in Star Trek, including the popular Thy’Lek Shran in Enterprise. The actor is extremely versatile and has become a fan favorite.
Combs has been active since the ‘70s, and along with his live-action roles, he has also performed as a voice actor on many shows and movies. He played his most recent Star Trek role as the computer AGIMUS in Lower Decks. However, he played the superhero The Question in Justice League Unlimited to perfection, with a signature blend of humor and mystery.
Another DC Role Led to Jeffrey Combs’ Casting in Justice League Unlimited

Jeffrey Combs is known for many of his supporting roles in TV and movies. However, the actor admitted that he was not into voice acting until The New Batman Adventures. In the animated series, Combs performed the role of Dr. Jonathan Crane a.k.a. Scarecrow and became a fan-favorite. He became a more prominent voice actor after that.
Combs credited his role as Scarecrow for leading him into this space, and he has since played a variety of voice roles. From Spider-Man: The Animated Series, to Thundercats, to Transformers, Combs has played iconic characters and has become a stalwart in the space. His best remains the Rorschach-esque detective, The Question, in Justice League Unlimited.

Fans love the character for his detective skills (he goes through everyone’s trash), brutal honesty, and his straight morals. Jeffrey Combs also adds some humor to the character, making him a charming yet mysterious presence in the Justice League.
Combs mentioned that his decision to play Scarecrow led to him playing this beloved DC character (via Reddit).
When I did Scarecrow, I only think I did 1, maybe 2 episodes of it, yet all these years later, people are constantly bringing it up. And then a few years later, a completely different production, but the same voiceover director, Andrea, called and asked if I would do the Question. And I was thrilled. I had a great time laying down those episodes. They were always filled with stellar talent.
He also mentioned that the reception of the show led him to get an agent for voice-over roles, and that is how he got more gigs like Transformers, where he played Ratchet.
Star Trek Actor Wants Jeffrey Combs for Another Role in the Franchise

Jeffrey Combs has played multiple roles in Star Trek, with Enterprise’s Thy’Lek Shran being his most popular. He was in 33 episodes of Deep Space Nine, where he played three roles: Brunt, Weyoun, and Trion. He also voiced AGIMUS in Lower Decks and has become an irreplaceable part of the franchise.
However, Star Trek does not seem to be done with Combs, as recently, actor Ethan Peck, who plays Spock in Strange New Worlds, met the star and was excited for a potential appearance. Peck mentioned that he was a huge fan of the actor and his performances in the franchise (via CBR).
I’m such a fan of his. I was on my way to a convention with him…and I didn’t realize it was him until we already became sort of casual friends. And I still have this need to express my fandom to him
Co-creator Akiva Goldsman joked that he would cast Combs as Spock in Strange New Worlds, which reportedly got Peck excited and even got his approval. While the logistics of such a cameo might be tough to imagine, the show has pulled off wackier storylines and can certainly make it work.
