Many anime don’t have a sequel, even though they deserve one immediately, which is understandable since incomplete adaptations were the norm. Now we get more full adaptations, whether it’s mainstream anime like Demon Slayer or those with a more niche appeal like Quintessential Quintuplets.
Things are definitely changing, but some anime are yet to benefit from this change. Yes, that includes both Nana and No Game No Life. Read on to know what else is on the list of the top 10 anime that never got the sequel they deserve.
10 Nisekoi

| Anime | Number of seasons | Chapters left in the manga |
| Nisekoi | 2 (2014-2015) | 123 (Chapters 107-229) |
With harem anime, the most important part is who the main character ends up with. The manga has a great conclusion and ties up most loose ends. Nisekoi anime never reaches that point. The anime adaptation covers around 100 chapters of the manga, and then the story continues for 100 more chapters. Nisekoi has a great cast of characters.

Most of the girls are interesting and not just archetypal. For instance, Chitoge is more than a tsundere, and her growth justifies this claim. Unlike other harem anime, Raku has a more heartfelt connection with the girls. The likelihood of a Nisekoi sequel is so low that the fandom has collectively moved on to the manga.
Nisekoi is currently available to stream on Crunchyroll.
9 Nichijou

| Anime | Number of seasons | Chapters left in the manga |
| Nichijou | 1 (2011-2011 | 126 (Chapters 106-231) |
Nichijou is comedy gold with a high rewatch value and humor that doesn’t get old. The anime is still an incomplete adaptation. Nichijou was first released in 2011. Commercial failure is seemingly the reason behind its incomplete status. It aired right after the devastating Tsunami of 2011, which made its comedic subject matter inappropriate for many fans, reportedly.
Another popular reason is believed to be its broadcast time. A midnight release schedule made it difficult for the anime to reach the right audience. The times have certainly changed; Nichijou is popular on social media too, and yet we don’t have a sequel.
Nichijou is currently available to stream on Crunchyroll.
8 Ouran High School Host Club

| Anime | Number of seasons | Chapters left in the manga |
| Ouran High School Host Club | 1 | 47 (Chapter 36 -83 ) |
Ouran High School Host Club is an irreplaceable experience for shojo anime, albeit an incomplete one. The anime follows a slice-of-life-esque structure, as Haruhi becomes acquainted with the host club and grows closer to them. The romance is slow, but as soon as the love blossoms between Haruhi and Tamaki, the anime ends!
The anime has adapted around 8 volumes of the manga, and there are 10 more volumes left. With Ouran, the subject matter can be a bit outdated and offensive. That explains the absence of a sequel; however, the story is still enjoyable and deserves a full adaptation.
Ouran High School Host Club is currently available to stream on Crunchyroll and Hulu.
7 March Comes in Like a Lion

| Anime | Number of seasons | Chapters left in the manga |
| March Comes in Like a Lion | 2 (2016-2019) | 114 (Chapter 89-203) |
March Comes in Like a Lion is a masterpiece, and most of the credit goes to the well-written characters. The character development, whether it’s the main character or the side cast, is emotionally engaging. For instance, the main character initially comes off as a genius, but breaks out of that perception as the story progresses. His journey is more about hard work than talent.
From the soundtrack to the animation quality, Studio Shaft has done brilliant work on the anime adaptation. The anime ends on an abrupt note. The manga gets even better in terms of character development, which makes the lack of a sequel more baffling.
March Comes in Like a Lion is currently available to stream on Prime Video.
6 Akatsuki no Yona
| Anime | No. of Seasons | Chapters left in the manga |
| Akatsuki no Yona | 1 (2014-2015) | 221 (Chapter 48-268) |
Akatsuki no Yona single-handedly pushes the boundaries of shojo. With a vast and intricate worldbuilding, the anime has action, romance, drama, and political themes. The anime ends quite abruptly, and Yona has just begun her journey. The story in the manga takes her to different nations. She gathers more allies, even unexpected ones.
The anime-only fans are yet to experience the full scope of Yona’s development. The manga is still ongoing with more than 250 chapters in total, and only 48 chapters have been adapted into the anime.
Akatsuki no Yona is currently available to stream on Crunchyroll.
5 Hyouka

| Anime | No. of seasons | Ligh novel volumes left |
| Hyouka | 1 (2012-2012) | 2 volumes (Volume 5-6) |
Unlike most anime on this list, Hyouka’s source material doesn’t have enough content for a sequel. The anime is adapted from a novel that has around 6 volumes, 4 of which have already been adapted. The animation by Kyoto Animation is gorgeous, and the adaptation is great overall. It did a decent job in wrapping up the story, but the ending is still controversial for many fans.
If given enough time and thought, the ending grows on you, but it only marks the beginning of Oreki’s ‘new life’. And that leaves plenty of room and expectations for a sequel. Yet, it’s highly unlikely that we’ll get one. Even though the anime fully deserves it
Hyouka is currently available to stream on Crunchyroll.
4 No Game No Life

| Name | No. of seasons | Light Novel volumes left |
| No Game No Life | 1 (2014-2014) + 1 Movie | 7 (Volumes 5-12) Volume 6 has been adapted |
No Game No Life is extremely popular, and just like Hyouka, it is the anime adaptation of a light novel series. The light novel is ongoing and has around 12 volumes. The anime only adapts the first three volumes, with a movie covering the sixth one.
Despite its massive popularity, No Game No Life is quite controversial and has many inappropriate themes. Yet it’s enjoyable for many, raising the need for a potential sequel.
No Game No Life is currently available to stream on Netflix.
3 Land of The Lustrous

| Anime | No. of seasons | Chapters left in the manga |
| Land of The Lustrous | 1 (2017-2017) | 72 (Chapter 37-108) |
Land of the Lustrous has the ability to change the minds of staunch haters of CGI in anime. It features high quality use of 3D animation, and from the story to the characters, other aspects of the experience are stellar, too. The manga has a total of 13 volumes, with only the first five adapted in the anime.
The anime is set in a world that has been ravaged by meteorites, and most of the characters are not even humans. Unfortunately, the anime has only 13 episodes, which is too less for an experience so interesting, both visually and narratively. It deserves a sequel, which it’ll probably never get.
Land of the Lustrous can only be bought on Apple TV and other services; it’s unavailable for streaming currently.
2 Hunter x Hunter

| Anime | No. of seasons | Chapters left in the manga |
| Hunter x Hunter | 1 (2011-2014) | 71 (Chapter 340-410) |
Hunter x Hunter anime concluded with Gon and Ging’s reunion. Ging opened up myriad possibilities that exist beyond everything we had seen so far in the anime. And before these possibilities could be explored, the anime ended. There are more than enough chapters left in the manga for another season.
Yet there’s no definite end in sight, which makes the likelihood of a sequel very low. With Yoshihiro Togashi’s medical condition, it’ll be a long time before the manga ends, and the wait for a sequel will continue.
Hunter x Hunter is currently available to stream on Crunchyroll.
1 Nana

| Anime | No. of seasons | Chapters left in the manga |
| Nana | 1 (2006-2007) | 43 (Chapter 42-84) |
Nana is a classic josei anime that has now become a pop culture movement. The characters enjoy great popularity with a deep resonance between Nana and its audience. The anime has 47 episodes in total, which is a lot for a non-shonen anime series. Its ending was somewhat climactic, as it gives the audience a peek into the future.
The manga has been on indefinite hiatus since 2009 without any substantial news about its return. Even though there are enough chapters for another 50 episodes, Nana doesn’t have a sequel.
That’s our list of anime that immediately need a sequel, but haven’t gotten one so far. And some of these probably never will! Do you think we missed anything? If yes, let us know your picks in the comments!
Nana is currently available to stream on Hulu.
