Taizan 5, the author of Takopi’s Original Sin, The Ichinose Family’s Deadly Sins, and more, has just released a new one-shot called Fighting Girls. The 73-page one-shot manga was released on August 17, 2025, and is currently available to read on Viz Media and MangaPlus for free.

The one-shot consists of Taizan 5’s signature art style, but instead of going down the psychologically traumatizing route, the author has created a wholesome story of two people coming from different backgrounds.

What Is the Premise of Taizan 5’s Fighting Girls?

Fighting Girls by Taizan 5 is a story about the rivalry between two Karate enthusiasts. Koume and Tiara have been rivals since they were little, and Tiara trounced Koume every time they faced off against each other. It is a story of a glorious rivalry that pushed the two characters.

It is a coming-of-age drama about two girls who might be rivals, but they bond over their passion for martial arts. Their dream of being an MMA fighter gets challenged at every turn in their lives.

Summary of Fighting Girls One-Shot Manga

The story begins with Koume, who loves MMA and joins karate at the age of 6. She is good at it and becomes the ace of her school until another girl named Tiara joins. Tiara began karate at the age of 2 and is superior to Koume in the sport. Koume is never able to defeat Tiara even once, but she also never gives up.

Tiara decides to become a pro-MMA fighter after high school, and Koume follows the same path. She keeps following Tiara’s journey on social media and also posts her own achievements. One day, all of a sudden, she sees a post that Tiara has retired. She becomes unsettled because she had thought of defeating Tiara her entire life.

The POV shifts to show Tiara, who was actually raised by an extremely toxic family. She had two younger brothers who received everything, while she had to help with house chores and beg for anything she needed. Her parents didn’t support anything she did. They wanted her to quit the ‘nonsense’ and focus on taking care of the family, and later get married.

Tiara moved to Tokyo, away from them, after high school and began competing. However, she received an injury because of which caused her to break down and announce her retirement. It is revealed that both Koume and Tiara were secretly following each other’s journey on social media. Tiara finds out that Kouma had won a major competition, and in her speech, she thanked Tiara. She then decides to resume her career after healing.

Who Are the Main Characters of Fighting Girls?

There are two main characters in the Fighting Girls one-shot manga:

Koume: Koume comes from a slightly problematic family and found comfort in watching MMA matches as a kid. Since then, she joined karate to become a pro-MMA fighter. While she was an ace in her karate class, everything changed when a new kid joined and began to defeat her in every match.

Tiara: Tiara comes from a toxic and patriarchal family in which she is forced to do the chores of the house while her brothers get to play around. She goes against her parents’ wishes to pursue her dreams, all the while struggling within herself. She found Koume as a constant rival in her life.
