One of the new Peacemaker season 2 cast members addresses their ties to Batman as the Dark Knight’s DC Universe future gets teased by James Gunn. A huge character who is coming over from the DCEU movie timeline into the DCU timeline is John Cena’s Peacemaker, as his show will continue under DC Studios’ rebooted franchise, with season 2 set to explain the universe shifts.
A new player who is joining the Peacemaker season 2 cast is Sasha Bordeaux, played by Sol Rodriguez, with her character having connections to Batman in the larger DC Comics canon. Even though Sasha may be a more obscure Batman character to general viewers, she is one of the first DCU players with any potential ties to the Dark Knight.
ScreenRant’s own Liam Crowley recently interviewed both Rodriguez and Gunn at the Peacemaker season 2 red carpet premiere, where they both got to address Sasha’s Batman connections and whether or not this version of the character has a similar history with the Caped Crusader in the DCU as her comic counterpart. While Rodriguez hopes that is the case, Gunn was more cryptic, as they shared the following:
ScreenRant: Sol, your character of Sasha Bordeaux, I’m sure you know all about her comic history. When she was introduced in the comics, it was as the head of Bruce Wayne’s personal security, and it didn’t take her long to figure out that Bruce Wayne is Batman. Does your character, your interpretation here, have the same history going into Peacemaker season 2?
Sol Rodriguez: Oh my God. So I never spoke about that with James, but I would like to think that she knows, and that’s part of her recent past, but I never really discussed it with James. I hope that, crossing my fingers, in the future, he writes something about that and I can bring that to life with Batman. I would love that. It would be such a dream. That’d be really cool, but I read all about it online and as much as I could, and I love that. So bada—.
ScreenRant: Sasha Bordeaux is a fascinating character to me because I know all about her comic history, her history with Bruce Wayne, personal security, and knowing Batman’s identity. Is that history you intended to play with going into the series?
James Gunn: I think we’ll, we’ll have to see where it goes. I mean, I think we’ll have to see with what we’re doing with Batman and figuring it out. So obviously we know some basics about where it’s going with Batman, but we’re also figuring some things out. So everything’s fluid.
One of the key takeaways with the DCU timeline is that Gunn’s franchise is focusing on many heroes and villains already being established in this continuity, with his Superman movie being a perfect example of that notion. In Batman’s case, the DCU has already confirmed that this iteration of the Gotham City hero is operating and far into his journey as a crime-fighter.
Batman appeared in Creature Commandos through a flashback, which gave audience members a first look at the DCU’s take on the hero, while making it clear that they are not doing an origin story with him. With Rodriguez and Gunn’s comments, it wouldn’t be shocking if Sasha had already had her comics history explored in the DCU, with Peacemaker season 2 now following her after those events.
Based on what Rodriguez and Gunn shared, it doesn’t look like the Peacemaker season 2 story will allude to Sasha’s Batman connections. But if Sasha gets used in future DCU projects, there is room to properly explore her past with Bruce Wayne and whether or not it’s exactly like it was in the comics.
While Rodriguez is clearly open to having her version of Sasha having had a working dynamic with Batman in the DCU, it remains to be seen if Gunn will explore that aspect of her character’s comic background. Sasha could be someone who maybe plays a supporting role in The Brave and The Bold movie, depending on how her Peacemaker season 2 arc plays out this fall.
Given that Sasha is also a relatively smaller Batman character, the DCU also has room to take her in other directions, both related and not related to the DC hero. But for now, fans will have to catch Sasha’s introduction in Peacemaker season 2 to see what the future may hold for her in the DCU.
Peacemaker season 2 premieres on Thursday, August 21, at 9 PM ET/6 PM PT on HBO Max.
