After 26 years, Jun Ji Hyun will possibly reunite with Lee Byung Hun in a new K-drama.
On September 3, media outlets reported that Jun Ji Hyun also received the offer to star in the Korean remake of the American series The Americans. Lee Byung Hun also received the offer to lead the K-drama back in June.
Jun Ji Hyun’s agency, Peach Company, responded to the circulating reports. According to them, “It is true that Jun Ji Hyun received the offer to star in the new K-drama Koreans. The actress is still reviewing the offer, and nothing has been confirmed yet. She will make her final decision after checking her schedule and other details.”
Last June, Lee Byung Hun’s agency also stated that the actor is positively reviewing the offer to star in the remake K-drama.
Next week, Jun Ji Hyun is finally returning to the K-drama scene with the Disney+ original series Tempest. She will work alongside Kang Dong Won, John Cho, Lee Mi Sook, Park Hae Joon, and Kim Hae Sook.
Jun Ji Hyun is best known for leading the works Jirisan, Kingdom: Ashin of the North, The Legend of the Blue Sea, My Love from the Star, Assassination, The Berlin File, The Thieves, My Sassy Girl, and more.
The upcoming K-drama, which will possibly be led by Jun Ji Hyun and Lee Byung Hun, will be called Koreans. If the casting is confirmed, it would be their first time working together in 26 years since they played siblings in the 1999 drama Happy Together. This time, they would likely portray a married couple.
Koreans is a spy drama that will depict the story of the popular American series The Americans, set against the backdrop of the turbulent era of South Korea’s military dictatorship.
The upcoming K-drama will be the next work of director Ahn Gil Ho, who is known for creating the K-dramas The Glory, Happiness, Stranger, Rooftop Prince, and more. Studio AA will produce the upcoming K-drama.
According to reports, Jun Ji Hyun and Lee Byung Hun will portray the role of a spy married couple.
