Son Heung-min Jokes About His Salary: “I’m Just a Monthly Worker, Not Weekly Paid” Crowned Worst-Dressed Player

On September 23, YouTube channel “HanaTV” released a video titled “The Only Concern of World-Class Son Heung-min Returning with the Trophy? Dr. Mureuppak EP.1.” The clip featured a heartfelt and humorous conversation between host Kang Ho-dong and Son Heung-min, who recently transferred to Los Angeles FC.

When asked whether he receives bonuses for becoming a top scorer, Son explained, “Bonuses depend on team performance. If we win the league or qualify for the Champions League, then they come.” Kang Ho-dong followed up by asking if players get paid monthly or weekly. Son clarified, “People misunderstand because I played in the UK—they think it’s always weekly pay. But realistically, I’m just a monthly worker.” This remark drew attention, given that his annual salary is reported to be around 18.1 billion KRW. Son added with a smile, “I’ve been a bank model for seven years. I get a lot of advice and even invest in their products.”

The conversation turned to fashion when Kang brought up Son’s profile, which noted that he had once been voted the “worst-dressed player.” Son reacted, “I’m actually very sensitive about that,” but Kang teased, “I heard you were way ahead of second place—it wasn’t even close.” Embarrassed, Son laughed it off, later joking when asked if there were players who dressed worse than him: “There are too many. Honestly, all of them.”

Son admitted that he simply wears whatever his stylist picks for him: “I just put on what they prepare. I never even asked what the concept was.”

The show Dr. Mureuppak is a modern reinterpretation of the legendary variety program The Knee-Drop Guru, and its buzzworthy lineup includes Kang Ho-dong, Son Heung-min, and G-Dragon.
