What’s Going On With Pogba?

In September 2023, Pogba tested positive for DHEA—a substance that stimulates hormone production, including testosterone. Initially, he was banned for four years. However, after a successful appeal, the suspension was reduced to 18 months.

When his ban expired in June 2025, Pogba signed with AS Monaco in an effort to revive his career after a turbulent period. Yet, nearly three months into the 2025/26 Ligue 1 season, the 32-year-old midfielder has not played a single match.

Monaco’s management continues to emphasize patience. CEO Thiago Scuro explained in July: “We set a minimum three-month process. Elite sports require science and thorough preparation. Monaco’s high-intensity playing style makes physical demands even stricter.”

Head coach Adi Hütter also confirmed Pogba is progressing as expected, both physically and mentally. “We can’t compare Pogba with Ansu Fati. Fati is young and had more time to train. Paul’s situation is different, but he’s being integrated more into our programs and is getting closer to the first team. He’s strong and mentally stable,” Hütter stated.

Despite Monaco suffering from an injury crisis, Hütter has so far refused to rush Pogba’s return. According to multiple reports, the midfielder could finally reappear after the October international break. That will be the moment of truth to see if the former Manchester United star still has the fitness to adapt to Monaco’s fast-paced, high-pressing system.
