Japan’s entertainment industry is reeling from shocking news involving one of its most beloved stars. On October 11, Shukan Bunshun reported that Ryoko Yonekura (50), a top Japanese actress, is under official investigation for suspected violations of Japan’s Narcotics Control Act.

According to the report, on August 20, Japan’s Kanto-Shinetsu Regional Bureau of Health and Welfare’s Narcotics Control Department — commonly referred to as “Matori” — conducted a search of Yonekura’s luxury apartment in Tokyo. Authorities reportedly discovered suspicious substances at the scene.

Yonekura was present during the raid and appeared visibly surprised by the investigators’ sudden arrival, the outlet stated.

Following the search, Yonekura reportedly left Japan for a period, heading to London. Upon her return, she is said to have canceled several scheduled drama and commercial appearances, raising public suspicion.

So far, Yonekura’s agency has not issued an official statement. However, Shukan Bunshun noted that she may be summoned for questioning by authorities following her return to Japan.

Prior to the drug allegations, Japanese media had speculated about Yonekura’s health due to her repeated absence from public events in recent months.
