Nobody Wants This' Justine Lupe Addresses Potential Morgan And Sasha Romance After Season 2's Game-Changing Finale

Warning! This article contains spoilers for Nobody Wants This season 2, including the finale.

Nobody Wants This star Justine Lupe has shared her thoughts on Morgan and Sasha’s relationship following season 2’s game-changing finale. While Nobody Wants This is primarily about the romantic difficulties faced by non-religious Joanne (Kristen Bell) and Rabbi Noah (Adam Brody) as they try to weave their lives together, much of the romantic comedy’s second season is also dedicated to Joanne’s sister, Morgan (Lupe), and her tumultuous personal life.

This includes her unconventional yet heartwarming friendship with Noah’s brother, Sasha (Timothy Simons). In Nobody Wants This season 1, Morgan and Sasha allied as their respective families’ “loser siblings.” In Nobody Wants This season 2, Morgan and Sasha’s friendship becomes deeper, as their separate love lives become increasingly complicated. Morgan turns to Sasha for advice, and Sasha, in turn, seeks out Morgan for support.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Lupe explained how Morgan feels about Sasha and his role in her character’s life following season 2’s dramatic ending: “They’re each other’s partners in a specific way that’s not romantic in that moment,” the actress explained.

In the Nobody Wants This season 2 finale, “When Noah Met Joanne,” everything implodes at Morgan’s engagement party. While Morgan finally realizes how unhealthy her relationship with Dr. Andy (Arian Moayed) is, Sasha’s wife, Esther (Jackie Tohn), tells him she needs space to figure out who she is outside their marriage. Their break-ups give Morgan and Sasha another moment to bond, as they each contemplate their newfound “single” status.

So, does that mean Morgan and Sasha are destined for romance in the future? Lupe isn’t certain that kind of relationship shift would be right for them — at least for now.

“I don’t know where it’s gonna go, but right now he’s got some healing to do, and so does Morgan,” the actress told THR. “I don’t have any hopes because I think, no matter what happens, it will be fun between them. Instinctively, I’m like, ‘You guys just support each other as friends because I actually think that you could be very healing presences for each other.'”

That being said, Lupe did acknowledge that sometimes, the best romantic relationships can develop from a deep, understanding friendship and mutual respect. “If it ends up there, I get it, and I can see that.” Even so, she maintained that, for the time being, Morgan and Sasha should keep their current friendship intact.

“She just broke up with someone where she rushed into a chaotic [relationship], she’s clearly not in her right mind in this season. She has soul searching to do and some self-confidence to gain and stabilizing to do as a human. He has to really process what’s just happened with his wife and mother of his child. So I think rushing into a romantic thing…. I mean, this is just my opinion as an audience member.”

“I appreciate that they’re in this moment and that it could, down the line, evolve into something else, but right now, they’re just being really good friends to each other.”

In a season defined by the cyclical nature of Joanne and Noah’s relationship dilemmas — Will Joanne convert to Judaism, and can Noah live with it if she doesn’t? — Morgan and Sasha’s wonderfully odd friendship was a definite highlight. While Joanne was so firmly in Morgan’s corner that they ended up fighting about it, she gets a different kind of support from Sasha, one that isn’t burdened by jealousy or familial history.

Romance famously makes relationships infinitely more complicated. Could Sasha and Morgan’s friendship survive that kind of pivot? That remains to be seen. According to Kristen Bell, however, Nobody Wants This season 3’s writer’s room is already in full swing (note: Netflix has yet to confirm the show’s renewal). Hopefully, that means audiences will see Sasha and Morgan’s relationship develop further, either way.

Nobody Wants This season 2 is now streaming in full on Netflix.
