Is Kevin Atwater leaving Chicago PD?
In Episode 5’s “Miami”, an unexpected reunion with an old friend leads to Atwater facing his truth of deprioritizing himself. Officer Fox’s (Karen Obilom) revelation about leaving Chicago shocks Atwater, who has never imagined a life beyond the city. Fox called out his selfless tendencies and urged him to entertain the idea of leaving Chicago to start afresh. However, a shocking bombing interrupts their conversation and shoves them into a gripping investigation.
The conversation resurfaces after Fox gets injured during the shootout. Atwater accompanies her to Med and confesses to never really giving a thought to it. During the intimate exchange, he shared that he has always been the caregiver. His responsibilities, personal and professional, never gave him the time to think about himself.
Atwater receives an enticing proposal from Fox, who invites him to join her in Miami, hinting at a potential future for the two. A flustered Atwater asks if she would like to go out for drinks first. Fox playfully responds that she would prefer to go to his apartment instead, where they can spend a night together.
The whirlwind romance and the tempting proposal have fans thinking that Atwater might take the plunge. However, it seems like it will take more of his new love interest’s offer to get Atwater to leave the Windy City. Chihards can only hope that Fox and Atwater find their way back to each other under more suitable circumstances.
In a conversation with NBC Insider, Chicago P.D. showrunner Gwen Sigan revealed that the storyline will highlight his headspace shift in the upcoming episodes.
