In the brand-new Paramount+ documentary, Don’t Date Brandon, two of Brandon Johnson’s ex-wives expose a disturbing trail of abuse, fraud, and deception behind the convicted con-man. However, after the documentary came out, viewers have grown curious about one thing: Where is Brandon Johnson now?
Who is Brandon Johnson in Don’t Date Brandon?
Born to Barbara Tolomei in the late 1970s, Brandon Johnson was raised by his mother in Aberdeen, Washington. He received his first restraining order at the age of just 19 in 1997. Early signs of his manipulative behavior showed when he dated a girl named Kelly in high school in 1992. On Don’t Date Brandon, she shared that their relationship started falling apart when Johnson became overly possessive and controlling. “There were times when I really wanted to be just with my friends, but that wasn’t allowed. He always wanted to be there,” she narrated in the documentary.
What happened to Brandon Johnson?
Johnson’s exes claim he faked cancer, degrees, jobs, and even his own death. With at least 17 protective orders filed against him from women in more than three states, in 2023, he reportedly pleaded guilty to assault and attempted kidnapping. As per the aforementioned publication, he met his first wife, Athena Klingerman, in 2007 through Match.com. Then, after having a daughter together in 2009, they got married two years later. After allegedly mistreating Klingerman’s older daughter from another relationship, and also refusing to move out after allegedly cheating on Klingerman, the couple finalized their divorce in 2012.
Then after meeting his second wife Amber Rasmussen on Tinder in 2013, he proposed to her in January 2014. Rasmussen revealed on the show that they married in 2017, but she started questioning Johnson’s behaviour. He allegedly claimed he had leukemia but never let her come along for doctor visits.
As per the Sacramento Bee, Rasmussen and Klingerman then got together and compared stories, only to realize they were being heavily conned and manipulated. They discovered that he previously received a suspended sentence for three charges of domestic violence and one of entrapment.
After Rasmussen and Klingerman started their Ex-Wives Undercover podcast in 2020, a woman named Rachel contacted them. She had a similar experience with Johnson after dating him in 2021. Finally, in 2023 he was charged with assault and attempted kidnapping with the intent to commit rape. As per the Sacramento Bee, he is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence in California.
