At #10 is Talk To Me (2023) and at #5 is Bring Her Back (2025), two fantastic horror movies by the same directors, that tackle possession horror. These films crawl under your skin with memorable scenes that are gory and psychologically scarring, while also telling a powerful tale.
The horror movie The Substance (2024) saw an Oscar nomination for Demi Moore’s incredible performance and gave us all a body horror scare by introducing existential ageism themes. Aside from these, it appears that a number of surprisingly older films are in the Top 10 list.
America Is Revisiting Horror Classics This Spooky Season
The Top 10 Movies on HBO reveal a plethora of horror classics dating back more than two decades in Hollywood history. The oldest flick on the list is Practical Magic (1998), which is #9.
This film is a supernatural rom-com about two witches navigating relationships, curses, and family drama. Starring two industry legends, Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, this movie has become a classic that has stood the test of time to become a comfort watch for millennials and boomers alike.

Two specials that even children enjoy stand at #6 and #8. At #6 is Scooby-Doo (2002), the live-action James Gunn adaptation of the classic Scooby Doo story, and at #8 is Corpse Bride (2005), the stop-motion Tim Burton animated film. Both films are endearing for people of all ages, telling stories that are filled with ghouls but also a lot of heart.

The coolest one stands at #7, being the epic crossover between the characters from two horror legends, Wes Craven and Victor Brooke Miller. Freddy vs. Jason (2003) sees Freddy Krueger (A Nightmare on Elm Street) manipulate Jason Voorhees (Friday the 13th) into killing for him, leading to an epic showdown with both franchises’ styles and lore on display.
Finally, we have the Stephen King classic’s adaptation, It and It Chapter Two, that remain relevant even today. Pennywise the Dancing Clown scared us all in the two films by Andy Muschietti, and everyone is gearing up for the Halloween episode that drops on October 31, 2025.
