Recently, there were reports suggesting that Gayle King, the host of CBS Mornings, may be leaving the show soon. The reports also indicated that instead of departing the network entirely, King might be taking on a different role within CBS. This news surfaced following the recent merger between Skydance Media and Paramount Global. In response to the speculation about King’s departure from the show or the network, CBS issued a statement.
Is Gayle King leaving CBS for good?
On October 30, Variety reported that Gayle King could be leaving her role as the host of CBS Mornings after her contract expires in May 2026. The report also suggested that instead of leaving the network entirely, King might take on a different position at CBS, or even produce her own show. However, a CBS representative issued a statement, denying the reports.
The representative stated. “There have been no discussions with Gayle about her contract that runs through May 2026. She’s a truly valued part of CBS and we look forward to engaging with her about the future.”
This speculation arose amid the major changes happening within the network as part of the Paramount Skydance merger. Since the merger announcement, several things have already changed within the company. With popular shows like The Late Show with Stephen Colbert being cancelled and 1,000 employees being laid off (via LA Times), concerns from the viewers are ever-growing.
On the other hand, King has had a long-standing relationship with CBS News since joining in 2011. In the past, she co-hosted CBS Mornings with Charlie Rose, Norah O’Donnell, and Anthony Mason. However, she currently co-anchors the show with Tony Dokoupil and Nate Burleson.
In addition to the morning news, King serves as the editor-at-large for Oprah Daily. Furthermore, she also hosts Gayle King in the House, her weekly live radio show on SiriusXM.
So, considering her impressive career, it was understandable that the show’s regular viewers were concerned about her exit. However, after CBS’s statement, they can rest easy knowing that she may continue to host the show.
