Pokémon GO‘s newest Max Battle Day features Gigantamax Garbodor, a pure Poison-type who offers plenty of great rewards for trainers who defeat it. By completing the right Research and utilizing certain bonuses, you can easily take down this extra large Pokémon, and even catch a Shiny version of it if you’re lucky!
Players have an option to purchase a special Event Ticket for the Gigantamax Garbodor Max Battle day, gaining access to additional rewards by doing so. For example, you’ll get extra XP gain from Max Battles with the Event Ticket, as well as a raised cap on collectable Max Particles. With new leveling updates in Pokémon GO affecting how you gain experience, this Event Ticket might be worth considering.
Gigantamax Garbodor Max Battle Day Schedule
Battle Against The Pokémon Boss For A Limited Time
Gigantamax Garbodor’s Max Battle day is only for a limited time, giving you only a short window to fight the Pokémon for various rewards. The Max Battle Day is scheduled to start on November 1, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM local time. This three-hour timeframe is fairly short, but it reflects other Max Battle day timers seen in Pokémon GO before.
This six-star Max Battle in Pokémon GO also features Timed Research tied to Gigantamax Garbodor, which starts some time earlier before Garbodor itself can be encountered. Starting on October 27, 2025, you can start completing Timed Research tasks to earn different benefits for the Max Battle. These range from Candy and Max Particles to raise your team’s strength, letting you get strong enough to defeat Gigantamax Garbodor quickly.
Finishing Timed Research might also let you encounter Dynamax Drilbur, a Ground-type Pokémon who can be crucial in the fight against Gigantamax Garbodor. The attacks of Drilbur, and its evolution Excadrill, can deal super-effective damage to Garbodor, but it is not the only Pokémon that could be used as a counter while facing the Max Battle boss.
Gigantamax Garbodor Weaknesses, Resistances, & Best Counters
Poisonous Attacks Have Little Effect On Certain Types
As only a Poison-type, Gigantamax Garbodor has a straightforward set of weaknesses and resistances to other types. Unlike the powerful dual-type Pokémon in Pokémon GO, Garbodor has far fewer types that interact with it poorly, which can make it harder to counter than you might expect. However, some Pokémon are incredibly strong against Garbodor, including:
- Dynamax Excadrill
- Dynamax Swoobat
- Dynamax Alakazam
- Dynamax Metagross
- Dynamax Latios/Latias
Gigantamax Garbodor is weak to Psychic and Ground-type attacks, which both do super-effective damage even against the larger Pokémon. This makes Dynamax Excadrill the perfect counter, as its Steel typing strongly resists any Poison, while it can dish out damage in large chunks through Ground-type strikes.
Similarly, Dynamax Metagross is the second-best counter to Gigantamax Garbodor, as it can use super-effective Psychic-type moves. It can also learn Earthquake, a Ground-type move that also targets one of Garbodor’s main weaknesses.
Other Psychic-type Pokémon like Dynamax Alakazam, Swoobat, or Latios/Latias are also strong picks, but not all of them have as strong of a resistance to Gigantamax Garbodor’s Infestation or G-Max Malodor moves. The former is a Bug-type move, which is super-effective against Psychic-types. Thankfully, Pokémon like Dynamax Metagross and Swoobat have secondary typings that resist Bug moves, allowing them to only take neutral damage from Garbodor.
All Event Bonuses During The Gigantamax Garbodor Max Battle Day Event
Interact With More Content While The Event Lasts
From October 31, 2025, the Remote Raid Limit in Pokémon GO will increase from 10 to 20, giving players more opportunities to challenge bosses in the game. The only way this is possible is through certain event bonuses from Gigantamax Garbodor’s Max Battle Day, which open up more doors for you to participate in content. For example, when the Max Battle event starts, you gain more Max Particles from exploring and Adventuring Distance milestones.
Here are all the unique bonuses that are active during the scheduled time of the Max Battle event:
- 8x Max Particles from Power Spots
- Two additional Special Trades for all Trainers
- Max Particle collection limit increased to 1,600
- All Power Spots will host Gigantamax Battles
- Power Spots refresh more frequently
Using Max Mushrooms to increase your Pokémon’s damage, having Campfire active to find allied Trainers, and following community posts will help you take advantage of these bonuses further during the event. You need Max Particles in Pokémon GO to challenge Gigantamax Garbodor in the first place, so you should use your limited time to gather as many as you can.
Shiny Chances For Gigantamax Garbodor
Higher Odds To Compromise With Fewer Encounters
Shiny odds can be all over the place with raid bosses in Pokémon GO, but Gigantamax Pokémon typically have a fixed rarity rate when featured in a Max Battle event. Gigantamax Garbodor has a 1 in 20 chance of being Shiny, giving you a roughly 5% chance of encountering a variant of the Poison-type Pokémon.
Normally, the Shiny odds of Pokémon are 1 in 64, or even 1 in 512 for Gigantamax battles that don’t have inflated odds from events.
It’ll take some trial and error to find a Shiny Gigantamax Garbodor, as you’ll likely have to encounter it multiple times to find the variant you want. Some players may not even see a Shiny Garbodor at all, at the time and effort it takes to re-challenge the Gigantamax Pokémon may take longer than the event allows.
However, those who are persistent and use the right counters to make battles much shorter will have an easier time searching for a possible Shiny. With the odds higher than usual compared to other Pokémon GO events, finding a Shiny Gigantamax Garbodor isn’t impossible during the Max Battle Day event.
