Anticipation is building for Ted Lasso season 4, which is set to arrive on AppleTV+ sometime in the middle of next year. Ironically, this release window could mean that the season coincides with another footballing event of even greater magnitude, which also happens to be taking place on Ted’s home turf.
If Jason Sudeikis has anything to say about when the season drops, no doubt he’ll be looking to take advantage of what could turn out to be the sitcom’s biggest and funniest joke of all. For the first time, Ted Lasso episodes are going to be released during a World Cup year.
There’s now a major possibility that the show’s fourth season debuts during a World Cup month, too. Nothing very specific has been confirmed about Ted Lasso season 4 as yet, but what we know so far strongly suggests a release window right around the time that soccer’s greatest spectacle gets underway.
Ted Lasso Season 4 Could Coincide With The FIFA World Cup In The U.S.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup begins on June 11, 2026, with a large proportion of its games taking place in the United States. These games include the final, which will be held at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, a venue better-known as the stadium of NFL teams the New York Giants and the New York Jets.
Meanwhile, Ted Lasso, a show about an American college football coach who lands himself a job as a soccer coach in the English football league system, seems set to return at almost exactly the same time. Ted Lasso season 4’s release window has been confirmed as “sometime from Q2 forward” in 2026, by Warner Bros. TV chair Channing Dungey.

Dungey’s confirmation sounds a lot like the schedule for the 2026 World Cup, which starts at the backend of Q2, before moving forward into the year’s third quarter. If Ted Lasso returns for the first time in three years at the exact moment an even bigger soccer event is happening in the United States, it’d be the sitcom’s funniest joke.
Season 4’s Most Likely Release Window Is Late Spring 2026
All things considered, spring 2026 is the most likely release window for the show’s comeback season. Ted Lasso season 4 began filming early in the summer of 2025, and should be heading into post-production soon, which means it’ll almost certainly be released before the fall schedule of 2026 begins.
At the same time, series of this magnitude are rarely released during the height of summer, when viewing numbers are down. Ted Lasso’s previous season was released between March and May of 2023, and we could see something similar again next year.
Only, the season could start a couple of weeks later in the year, so that its finale ties in nicely with the opening week of the World Cup. Discussions will almost certainly have taken place already about this scenario, at the executive level of the show’s production companies.
A Ted Lasso Series Finale Would Be The Perfect World Cup Lead-In
While nothing has been confirmed at this stage, there’s a major possibility that Ted Lasso’s season 4 return is a one-off, and that this season is the sitcom’s last. If it is, a World Cup-themed series finale in which Ted returns to the U.S. for the occasion would be the perfect way to bow out.
It would also be the perfect lead-in to the World Cup itself. While Apple TV+ doesn’t have the rights to cover the tournament, which is being broadcast in the U.S. by Fox in partnership with Prime Video, linking the world’s favorite soccer sitcom to the event would be a great way to get in on the act.
Time will tell exactly when Ted Lasso’s next episodes are going to be released. But one way or another, it seems impossible that the World Cup won’t be involved somehow. However, Sudeikis works the tournament into the show, it’s bound to be one of the most hilarious things his most beloved character has ever done.
