Professional wrestling, particularly in WWE, is about flashy moves and detailed storylines, but that works only when there are the right kind of superstars in the locker room. A defining factor in this regard is a wrestler’s age. It determines the state they are in, and for how long a company like WWE, which has become a global brand, can rely on them to deliver top-quality matches.
A graphic from pro wrestling geek and podcaster Macho Rodriguez has become an emerging talking point. It illustrates and compares the average age of WWE superstars in the 2000s and in 2025.

Surprisingly, the age difference between then and now is huge. While the average age of the WWE locker room in the 2000s was 32.3 years, it has risen to 41.5 this year, with several superstars in their early and mid-40s.
Age Issue in WWE: How Can Triple H Fix the High Average Age Problem?

The issue of high average age is a result of negligence from the WWE executives for a sustained period of time. All prominent WWE superstars, be it Cody Rhodes, who is currently the biggest babyface of the company, or Drew McIntyre, Roman Reigns, Randy Orton, and Kevin Owens, are all either 40 or above.
The former World Heavyweight Champion Gunther, Jey Uso, and Seth Rollins are in their late 30s, signifying that even the next generation of prominent talents is much older than needed. This is because of the over-reliance of the company on these superstars, and the consequences are also immense.

The most evident result of depending upon the same set of superstars can be seen in the overall ratings of Friday Night SmackDown. The Sportster reported that for the October 31, 2025, edition of Friday Night SmackDown (via WWE), the viewership had dropped to 933,000. This was down 19% from the week before and 15% from the trailing four weeks.
Promoting younger, talented superstars to the main rosters of the company and providing them the right push is the only way the issue of high average age can be solved by WWE creative heads under Triple H. In addition to that, these youngsters would need backing for a longer period of time with quick storyline progressions to yield full results.
Young WWE Superstars Who Deserve the Right Kind of Push From Triple H

WWE has several youngsters in its locker room waiting to become prominent superstars and feature regularly in the main rosters of the company. One such promising prospect is Bron Breakker, who is already being branded as the future of the company. At 28 years old, it’s obvious that his best years are ahead of him, and given that the company works on his promo skills, he is bound to reach great heights in the company.
The current NXT World Champion, Ricky Saints, formerly known as Ricky Starks, is another such name that the company should actively pursue and work on as a prominent main roster talent in the future.
Although he is 35 years old at the moment, he can provide the kind of charisma needed to hype up television ratings. Because of his personality, Saints is currently branded as the next Rock of WWE and could become a top babyface character under the right circumstances.

Dominik Mysterio is another 28-year-old with the kind of star value that the company needs at this point. The former Intercontinental Champion has emerged as a top heel in the company and now needs to compete for the major world titles to make those storylines even more interesting.
While the locker room of the company is full of young, promising names, the question remains: is WWE ready to invest its time, energy, and build commercial value around them?
