ARC Raiders has introduced a new map called Stella Montis with its first major update, which brings with it a new robotic menace called the Shredder. The Shredder joins the legion of ARC enemies as another close-range threat, and is already proving more dangerous than Ticks, Pops, and Fireballs.
The Shredder floats just above the ground and can devastate Raiders with a wide shotgun blast. Matters are complicated further by its heavy armor plating. You won’t burn through high-level resources taking down a Shredder like you would against ARC Raiders‘ other new foe, the Matriarch, but if you get caught unaware, it only takes a couple of attacks from a Shredder to knock you out.
How To Kill A Shredder In ARC Raiders
You may be best off avoiding Shredders, especially in Stella Montis where you’re forced to fight at close quarters, but some smart play can destroy them without too much trouble. I’ve had the most luck so far with Snap Blast Grenades. These uncommon grenades are fairly easy to craft, moderately cheap to buy, and crucially stick to whatever surface you throw them at. Two Snap Blast Grenades will destroy a Shredder – just be sure to keep your distance until it explodes.
If you are forced to shoot it, aim for the thrusters on the bottom. Just like other flying enemies, shooting the thrusters will seriously hinder a Shredder, and a well-timed shot can stun it and cause the Shredder to miss its attack. Heavy ammo can penetrate and destroy a Shredder’s armor plating, so a Ferro or Anvil are good options to have on hand in Stella Montis.
Shredders Are Dangerous When Playing Solo, But Not Much Of A Threat To A Team
Shredders pose a unique threat with their shotguns, but they’re not much more imposing than a Wasp or Hornet. They can be very dangerous when you’re playing solo, so it’s best to simply avoid them unless you’re actively hunting them. Teaming up on a Shredder will make quick work of the new ARC, though. Especially once everyone learns the best ways to destroy them, a coordinated squad will be able to eliminate a Shredder before it even becomes a threat.
It helps that Shredders don’t move as much as other enemies – even if you hit their thrusters, they won’t go spiraling through the air like a Wasp, so it’s easy to line up a second shot quickly. Like most enemies in ARC Raiders, it’s important to listen for Shredders; hearing one before you see it (or it sees you) is instrumental in getting a leg up. It’s only a matter of time before Shredders become the target of weekly Trial challenges, so it’s best to figure out your preferred way to deal with this new ARC Raiders enemy as soon as possible.
