After Final Fantasy, Magic: The Gathering Needs To Add This Classic RPG Series Next

Magic: The Gathering’s numerous crossovers have always been exciting, but the hype surrounding the Final Fantasy collab was palpable. From its choice of iconic games for its legendary commander decks to the inclusion of some very inspired art, it is clear that a lot of effort went into this set. Naturally, it also meant that pre-orders were flying off their respective digital shelves, and the prices of each commander deck skyrocketed well above their original RRP. If you want to grab one of these Final Fantasy decks now, you’ll probably have to pay a lot more.
However, as much as we’re all enjoying the overpowered Final Fantasy MTG decks for the time being, it’s hard not to set one’s eyes on the next collaboration and, specifically, which brand or IP it will be with. We’ve already enjoyed the likes of Doctor Who, Fallout, and Warhammer 40,000, but there are still so many IPs for Wizards of the Coast to draw from for its rather respectful and, frankly, impressive collaborations. In fact, there is another RPG series, just like Final Fantasy, that deserves the MTG treatment, and it is very possible it could happen.
Magic: The Gathering’s Final Fantasy Set Is A Massive Hit
It Is The Best-Selling Set In MTG History
To perhaps absolutely no one’s surprise, the Final Fantasy collaboration is MTG’s best-selling set of all time. In fact, according to Hasbro’s chief executive, Chris Cocks, during an investors’ call from April 2025 available via the official Hasbro website, the Final Fantasy collab became the best-selling set before it was even officially released thanks to its unbelievably successful pre-orders. It’s great to see so many Final Fantasy fans flock to the set, especially as the art and theming are of exceptionally high quality.
This success is partially due to the inherent popularity of the IP, as well as the growing interest in MTG’s Universes Beyond sets, but also thanks to the best Final Fantasy MTG cards that were released as both a part of the precons and those found in boosters. These cards were completely transformative, and some are must-haves for all players, regardless of their affinity with the franchise. Of course, this dedication to the FF set has me wondering just how amazing an Elder Scrolls collaboration would be.
It Is The Perfect Crossover
Considering how the Final Fantasy collaboration encouraged newcomers to play MTG, one can only imagine how well an Elder Scrolls set would do. It could form commander decks around Skyrim, Oblivion, Morrowind, and even The Elder Scrolls Online, or delve deeper into the series’ history and look at Daggerfall and Arena for inspiration. With such rich and interesting characters and lore, there is so much potential for amazing decks and art based around this unbelievably immersive universe.

From exciting monsters to unique mechanics, the Monster Hunter franchise has everything it needs for a worthwhile Magic: The Gathering collaboration.
It also feels like the most realistic option, especially considering Wizards of the Coast have already partnered with Bethesda for the very good Fallout Universes Beyond set. An Elder Scrolls MTG set would almost certainly blow the Final Fantasy collaboration’s sales out of the water, especially if it is timed alongside the next Elder Scrolls 6 announcement, trailer, or even release date – although who knows how far away that could be. While there are lots of amazing IP Magic: The Gathering should collaborate with, an Elder Scrolls set just makes the most sense after Final Fantasy’s huge success.
