Akshay Kumar’s Weekend Sendoff Was Delightful

The Sajid Khan hosted Yaaron Ki Baaraat—co-host Ritesh Deshmukh disappeared all of a sudden without an explanation—came to  fitting finale on Sunday with friends neighbours and blockbuster partners Sajid Nadiadwala  and Akshay Kumar warming Sajid Khan’s sofa  and the cockles of our hearts with their effortless kinship.

Contrary to some of the co-guests on thw show—like Shah Rukh-Anushka Sharma and Vidya Balan-Sujoy Ghosh—Nadiadwala and Akshay didn’t use the platform to promote their films.Instead we saw how  a true friendship can survive  in an industry of opportunists and working relationships.

What we saw on Yaaron Ki Baaraat  was an exceptional commonality.Besides the fact that they both admitted to being petrified of their wives(Akshay more than Nadiadwala, if we go by how high the two buddies held their placards displaying ‘yes’) both Nadidawala and Akshay live in the same building, got married at the same time and had children at around the same time too and their children attend the same school as once upon a time,their father did.

Akshay who is the most natural camera person among the superstars today admitted he was insecure about Nadiadwala’s friendship with [tooltip id=”88b6af99531f838ed90aed058b7d870a”][tooltip id=”c1b465420d07c688942ed18eadfd9f92″ keyword_color=”#000000″ background_color=”#ffffff”][tooltip id=”4db8f5608d45f5de7881d9bce162f4bf”]Salman Khan[/tooltip][/tooltip][/tooltip].“I was warned not to do Nadiadwala’s Mujhse Shaadi Karogi with Salman, that Nadiadwala would cut my role to please him.”

Here, Nadiadwala guffawed in how-ridiculous-is-that amusement.The producer revealed  that the secret of maintaining high-maintenance friendships in Bollywood is to not allow overlapping to happen. For example, when Akshay gets up for his morning jog, Salman gets ready for bed. I wonder what Nadiadwala would have done if both his buddies were night persons.

Akshay was  quite the scenestealer on Sunday night. His pole dance to the accompaniment of the song Bharo maang meri bharo(taken from an Akshay starrerSabse Bada Khiladi) was the most incredible  act I’be seen anyone perform around an iron pole.

An alternative career  for  Akshay awaits in the action-erotic industry. He is a natural at  anything he does including his interaction with fans which is warm and sincere and not at all patronizing. He even invited a 56-year old lady to do the pole dance with him, and enjoyed every bit of it.

Speaking of star-fan interaction I must mention Yaaron Ki Baarat’s episode on Saturdaywhere guest Sanjay Kapoor won our hearts with his absolutely charming interaction with a  gay fan(yes,Sanjay Kapoor has fans!) who confessed he fantasized about Kapoor(there’s no telling about tastes!).

While Yaaron Ki Baaraat  scored high marks in humanizing stars its game sections were ridiculously rigged. When Nadidawala played dumb charade with Akshay we could easily make out he knew the answers beforehand. So next time, Sajid Khan, play only those games that the stars are comfortable playing.And make sure your yaar and co-host doesn’t disappear mid-season.
