WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS ahead for Alien: Earth episode 6.The ending of Alien: Earth episode 6, “The Fly,” suggests that Boy Kavalier’s company, Prodigy, may be on a disastrous collision course with Morrow, Yutani, and several key characters on Neverland Island, including Wendy.
“The Fly” is a clever callback to the beloved Breaking Bad season 3 episode of the same name, which featured Walt and Jesse tirelessly trying to kill a fly in their meth lab. In Alien: Earth, the stakes are much higher than ruining a drug batch, as the fifth beetle-like alien creature in Alien: Earth is finally revealed and destroys one of the Lost Boy hyrbids, Tootles.
Additionally, trouble is brewing for just about every Prodigy hybrid just three weeks ahead of their global reveal. After threatening violence against Dame Sylvia, Atom Enis ordered that Nibs receive an internal realignment that interferes with her organic personality and erases some of her darker memories.
Meanwhile, Wendy is convinced that the Xenomorph she befriended is “good,” Slightly lures Arthur into a tragic face-hugging trap, and Joe is determined to get Marcy off Neverland Island for good, convinced that she is still his sister. Boy Kavalier forces Yutani into a lucrative arbitration deal, but likely has no plans to hand her back her specimens.
Wendy Distrusts Sylvia After What Happened To Nibs
One of the most crucial scenes in Alien: Earth episode 6 is when Wendy confronts Dame Sylvia about altering Nibs’ personality and memory. Dame Sylvia tries to frame the changes as holistic improvements, claiming that she’s a doctor and she only gave her medicine, but Wendy accuses Dame Sylvia (and Prodigy) of being corrupt.
Wendy refers to Kirsh’s vision of humanity as inherently selfish and overly romantic, but still demands to be called by her human name, Marcy. This internal conflict in Wendy is brewing all while she has apparently made a friend in the rapidly growing Xenomorph that was born at the end of Alien: Earth episode 4.
Now that we know the truth about why the Maginot crashed into Prodigy City, thanks to Alien: Earth’s episode 5 extended flashback, it’s now clear that Boy Kavalier may be planning to reveal these specimens, along with the hybrids, in the season finale. That is, if he’s able to keep all the aliens contained on Neverland Island.
Slightly Set Arthur Up To Bring A Xenomorph To Morrow
Slightly’s villain arc reaches an all-time high in Alien: Earth episode 6 when he locks Arthur in the secure lab with a hatched facehugger. He initially tried to lure Joe to the lab but failed due to his unconvincing and strange proposal. He struck gold when Arthur rushed to the secure lab to check on Tootles, only to find his body mutilated by the fly-like aliens.
Morrow threatened to harm Slightly’s human family, which is why he set Arthur up. He needed a facehugger to latch only a human host to deliver to Morrow, who is determined to bring all the specimens back to Yutani. Slightly begins to drag Arthur’s body, facehugger attached, through an air vent. Interestingly, the hybrids are not immune to attracting the fly-like aliens like they are from the Xenomorphs.
Most interesting of all, however, is that Kirsh witnesses Slightly setting up Arthur and allowing him to be overtaken by a facehugger in the secure lab and says nothing to Boy Kavalier. Fans of the Alien franchise already know to never trust a synth, and Kirsh’s secrecy cannot be good for Boy Kavalier and Prodigy one way or another.
A Revolt Against Boy Kavalier & Prodigy Is Brewing
Just about everything has been going Boy Kavalier’s way throughout the first six episodes of Alien: Earth. He launches Wendy and his hybrids, his conspiracy to crash the Maginot into Prodigy City to acquire the aliens worked out, and he’s more than $50 billion richer after striking a deal with Yutani, knowing she’ll bend to his will.
That said, Prodigy’s empire appears to be falling apart at the seams from just about every angle. Wendy’s distrust of Sylvia will eventually strain her belief in Prodigy as a whole. Slightly has already acted against Prodigy’s interests by smuggling a Xenomorph out of the lab. Sylvia will surely be devastated by Arthur’s death and could quit as a result.
Kirsh keeping quiet may just be to avoid Boy Kavalier from having a meltdown on the flight home, but it’s much more likely that he will somehow use Slightly’s betrayal to his advantage. On top of all this, Morrow is heading to Neverland to get Arthur and the budding Xenomorph from Slightly and will almost certainly be bringing some type of Weyland-Yutani-funded army with him.
Boy Kavalier and his company are doomed to fail because of his greed and immense capacity for corruption. He’s deluded Wendy with lofty ideas of imagination and never saying no to anything, which will certainly be his Achilles heel in the end. Joe may not have to convince Wendy/Marcy to get off the island, and in a similar vein to Westworld, there may be a risky escape strategy in effect in future episodes of Alien: Earth.
