An unintentional slight to the great Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj has triggered off an outrage and protest on social media with ‘Boycott KBC’ trending on Twitter.
The Kaun Banega Crorepati team , in a state of shock, doesn’t know what hit them.
The offending question aired on Wednesday 6 November, referred to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj as ‘Shivaji’ alone, eventuating in allegations of disrespect. The Channel Sony Entertainment has issued a public apology. But it doesn’t seem to have assuaged the offended sections .
Sensing serious trouble Sony will now play a ticker during the show expressing regret over the error.
While the show’s host Amitabh Bachchan remained unavailable for comment a source close to him says he had nothing to with the error.
“He reads out the questions from a ready script. He has nothing to do with how the questions are framed,” says the source.
Sony now intends to undertake a process of second-level scrutiny of all the questions asked on the show, in order to avoid such mistakes in future.
