The pandemic may have punctured the intended impact of the new Amitabh Bachchan starrer Chehre. But producer Anand Pandit’s spirits remain high.
“It’s a film we all believed in . It is a creation we all are proud of specially so since it showcases the histrionics of India’s greatest star-actor(Amitabh Bcahchan) who both my director Rumi Jaffrey and I idolize,” says Pandit passionately.
And yes, there is a sequel on the anvil.
Revealing plans of carrying the suspense thriller forward Anand Pandit says, “I am open to the idea of a sequel, and we are looking for a suitable story .”
Adds director Rumi Jaffrey, “We always planned it as a story that can be taken forward,That’s why we’ve opted for an open ending.”
Reacting to Chehre seriously underperforming in theatres Rumi says, “It was always a risk. But a risk worth taking. We as a team support the save-our-cinemas movement. We were ready to face the losses.”
Chehre is Mr Bachchan’s second release since the pandemic. The first, Shoojit Sircar’s Gulabo Sitabo in 2020 was an unintelligible exercize in intellectual selfindulgence released on OTT. Chehre is far more comprehensible to the average viewer and likely to be released on the digital platform in a month’s time.
The other pandemic release Bell Bottom is already scheduled to release on Amazon this month.
