Anusha Rizvi Reacts To Her Husband’s Conviction For Rape

A Delhi court on Saturday convicted Peepli Live’s co-director Mahmood Farouqui for the rape of an American research scholar.

The verdict sent shock waves through Bollywood and the Indian entertainment industry. Mahmood and his wife Anusha Rizvi directed one of the most acclaimed film Peepli Live which Aamir Khan had produced.
After the rape allegation Anusha (whom I know personally to be gentle softspoken and principled) kept a  low profile.
But after the Saturday verdict she spoke up, making it very clear that she stands by her husband in  spite of the court’s verdict  and that her fight for justice on behalf of her husband will continue.
Says Anusha, “Our fight for justice is by no means over. We will approach the High Court for justice that has been denied to us.”
She believes her husband to be innocent. “The truth will triumph, that is my belief. We are tremendously grateful for the support of our friends and colleagues who are standing with us in this travesty.”
Anusha has not experienced any kind of social ostracism because of the ghastly allegation against her husband.

Putting up a brave front she says, “We  have the full support of our friends and colleagues and of course our families. I don’t feel isolated at all. In fact I am amazing and deeply touched by the support my husband and I have received.”
