Avengers: Doomsday Will Make Magneto Fight Doctor Doom to Save His Mutant Dream

Avengers: Doomsday will mark the return of Sir Ian McKellen in the shoes of Magneto, alongside other major X-Men figures from the Fox universe. Having last appeared in 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past, the revered actor will return to the iconic role after over a decade. Moreover, according to rumors (via The Cosmic Circus), Marvel has mapped out something for the character.

When we see Magneto again in Doomsday, he finally has the mutant utopia he had always dreamed of. When it’s threatened, you know he’ll throw hands to protect it.

Semi-reliable scooper Alex Perez claimed that the iconic mutant will be fighting Robert Downey Jr‘s Doom in the multiversal battle to preserve his reality, and he won’t be holding back any punches.

Magneto Will Be Coming in Full Swing in Avengers: Doomsday

Both Professor X and Magneto are the two sides of the same coin, as they both envision a future where mutantkind is safe and respected, but it’s their approach that puts them at odds. If the rumors are indeed true, fans will be offered a reality where Magneto achieves his vision for a mutant utopia, at least until Doom wages his war on the multiverse.

So it’s only reasonable for Magneto to throw hands at Doom, a direct threat to his mutant utopia. Although the outcome might already be decided, as Doom’s win would both serve as an emotional gut punch for the audience and amp up the stakes, don’t expect Magneto to go down without a fight.

However, given how stacked the cast for Doomsday already is, it remains to be seen whether the Russo brothers will be able to do justice to Magneto while also painting Doom as a legitimate threat to the multiverse.

The Doomsday Saga Could Be the Swan Song for Fox’s Mutants

For Sir Ian McKellen’s Magneto and the rest of the mutants from the Fox universe, the upcoming Avengers duology, Doomsday and Secret Wars, could very well serve as their final chapter. Even though characters from the Fox universe have been prominent in the multiversal saga so far, the final stretch in this saga could serve as their swan song, and there’s nothing wrong with it.

With the MCU’s very own X-Men movie in the works, beyond Secret Wars, fans can expect a fresh start that could feature several potential recasts, including Iron Man and Captain America. So it only makes sense for Marvel to move past these legacy figures, allowing the OG mutants to go out with a bang in the upcoming multiversal war against Doom.

Considering how tumultuous the multiversal saga has been, here’s hoping Doomsday and Secret Wars would conclude this chapter on a high note.
