Among the new Baldur’s Gate 3 patch fixes, there is one that highlights the fix to one of the weirdest bugs in the game. Larian’s award-winning turn-based RPG has already reached its finale when it comes to content updates. In fact, the final content update for Baldur’s Gate 3 brought forth 12 new subclasses for players to pick from, significantly expanding the gameplay options beyond what the game already provides.

After this patch, it is unlikely that the game will receive any new updates to add content to the game, as the tweaks and alternative options to the narrative have all been made. Furthermore, gameplay has also been improved over the nearly two years since the game’s official release, not considering the beta period. However, it’s not the end for the RPG just yet.

Most recently, Larian Studios announced a hotfix patch for Baldur’s Gate 3, which is set to bring a series of improvements to the game. This includes a long list of bug fixes, including the reduction of potential crashes and performance problems. Furthermore, there have been several optimizations for the Xbox version of the RPG.

In addition to that, this hotfix most notably brings a native build for Steam Deck, meaning that the game can run directly on the platform rather than relying on a compatibility layer that increases CPU usage. This should result in a smoother gaming experience with better framerates and lower loading times.

Coding For Games Can Be Extremely Tricky

Among all the updates and fixes, however, there is one that really caught my eye. There are several bugs in Baldur’s Gate 3, and one of them is being fixed. As listed by Larian Studios, there is a glitch in which a static pool of blood appears floating during a cinematic with the gnolls in the Risen Road area in Act 1.

According to the studio, this bug is triggered specifically when you reach that part of the game while playing as a Dark Urge character with a short body type. This means that it does not trigger with a short character that isn’t a Dark Urge in Baldur’s Gate 3, nor does it activate with Dark Urge characters of other body types.

This is a minor fix and a purely aesthetic one at that, but it shows just how tricky the coding for a game, especially one of this scale, can be. The glitch occurs in a very specific scene under very specific conditions – and, from a wider perspective, there shouldn’t be a reason why a short Dark Urge character, specifically, would cause that glitch to occur.

However, this is proof of how carefully codes need to be written, as a minor unchecked condition could affect another seemingly unrelated part of the game. It wasn’t a game-breaking glitch in any way, but it’s curious to see just how deep a title like Baldur’s Gate 3 really is, and how much work is put into fully polishing it.
