The feud between Bappi Lahiri and Karan Johar is over. Baippi’s son Bappa had reacted strongly against some digs taken at Bappi’s music in Johar’aAe Dil Hai Mushkil. Bappi too had responded in acerbic tones to what was at best a good natured sporting jibe by Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma during their bantering binges in the narrative.
However now with Bappi’s songs being re-mixed for two of Karan Johar’s production, Bappida is in a Kjo mood.
Unlike Anu Malik who is apparently miffed about his song Neend churayi meri being used in Golmaal Again without his permission, Bappi Lahiri who is currently stationed in Los Angeles is very happy about one of his 1970s’ hits Raat baqi baat baqi being used by Karan Johar in Ittefaq.
Speaking from LA Bappi says, “Raat baqi is one of my favourite compositions. And this is the second time Karan Johar has used my song this year. Earlier he used my Tamma tamma number in Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya. And I was just as happy,” says Bappi.
Raat baqi , he says, is a special song in his repertoire. “It’s not only one of my most favourite songs composed by me, it is I believe a milestone in Bollywood music. And Ashaji(Bhosle) sang it with me like a dream.”
Do the remixed vocals compare with the original?
Bappi wriggles out of that one. “Asha is Asha. You can’t replace Ashaji or Lataji by anyone. I consider myself greatly privileged to have worked with both the sisters. I consider Lataji to be Mata Saraswati, the Goddess of learning and enlightenment. Where do we have such vocals now? But the songs they sang are there. Ideally the original vocals should be retained. But that’s entirely the producers’ call.”
