Battlefield 2042 is surprisingly alive with an average player count of 7,500 on Steam. So simply said, yes, it’s barely alive. Even the hype from the Battlefield 6 Beta didn’t restore any faith in the game whatsoever.
In comparison, Battlefield V (2018) has twice as many plays. This suggests that most of the player base has minimal interest in a futuristic shooter title. A wee sad for us to observe.
Over the years, Battlefield 2042 has averaged only around 28,000 players, and only 10,000 in recent months. The only times it peaked were during free weekends. That’s too didn’t work because returning players always leave complaints. At this point, BF 2042 is better abandoned.
Players now want to enjoy the latest. With only two months on the clock for Battlefield 6‘s release, maybe the futuristic BF won’t get a revival. Are you waiting for the same?
Battlefield 2042 Didn’t Stand a Chance Against Its Old-Styled Predecessor
Battlefield 2042 got humbled hard by its own predecessor, Battlefield V, which was released in 2018. That’s right, a game from seven years ago performs better. The player count peaked without a free weekend and even surpassed Battlefield 2042. Talk of embarrassing here.
Additionally, the average player count is higher for Battlefield V in the long run. So, Battlefield 2042 is technically a failure. With the dawn of Battlefield 6, maybe some players logged in, but didn’t stay for long. Since the hottest game is the latest.
To be clear, Battlefield 6 is everything Battlefield 2042 should have been but didn’t. The idea of Portal was great, but the latest rendition is exactly what fans would have loved. But it’s better late than never. Glad Electronic Arts took the right steps to bring back glory to their iconic pillar.
The mix of Battlefield 4 with modernistic destruction mechanics is what fans wanted with Battlefield 2042. But Electronic Arts added it with BF6. If you hop into Battlefield 6 Beta, you’d understand that it’s everything fans wanted the franchise to be.
Battlefield 6 Is Taking the Franchise to New Heights, Which BF 2042 Was Supposed to Do

Battlefield 6 Beta has proved one thing clearly: it’s the most anticipated entry into the franchise by surpassing all player count records. That too in a matter of two days. The 24-hour peak has been 338,100 players, which is thrice as many as the previous records.
Maybe EA cracked the code for making a blockbuster shooter game. Well, they technically did with Apex Legends, but that’s a battle royale-focused game and also free to play. For a hardcore mil-sim shooter, this is a first.
If you want to experience Battlefield 6 Beta, the servers are still open until August 17, 2025. So, you have to be quick to grab a chance. If you have a plan to buy the game later on, the time is now. Ready to dive into the world of war?
