Battlefield: REDSEC Is Free-To-Play, Here's When It Releases In Your Time Zone

Battlefield 6‘s companion battle royale mode, Battlefield: REDSEC, was teased back in late July during the new game’s multiplayer reveal event, but remained a mystery all the way through BF6‘s record-breaking release. It’s now been announced one day ahead of time that REDSEC will release on October 28, 2025, concurrently with the beginning of Season 1.

Much like Battlefield 6 itself, REDSEC has been subject to numerous leaks, so even though there is very little official information, the broad strokes of the battle royale have been known. Early rumors indicated that the Battlefield 6 battle royale would be free-to-play, and now the official REDSEC announcement has confirmed such speculation.

According to the announcement post from Battlefield, REDSEC will be free-to-play. This means a purchase of Battlefield 6 is not necessary in order to play REDSEC, even though the battle royale is built on the full game’s systems.

At the time of writing, there is no pre-load for Battlefield: REDSEC. Similarly, digital storefronts do not yet have a listing for REDSEC. Since it is free-to-play, it’s likely to be a separate download, but it may not be available until the game and its servers go live on October 28 at 15:00 UTC.

Be sure to note that if you are in one of the earlier time zones, on the east side of the eastern hemisphere, Battlefield: REDSEC, actually releases very early on October 29. If there is no pre-load available before release time, then your entrance to the game will subsequently be delayed as well. If Battlefield 6‘s launch is anything to go by, release day and a few following will likely see REDSEC instituting login queues.

For Battlefield 6, these generally moved pretty fast. They do not necessarily indicate that the game’s servers are at capacity; the queue helps triage an overwhelmed login system. With Battlefield: REDSEC being free-to-play, many who did not purchase BF6 will likely be joining existing players in trying the new battle royale.
