Before the X-Men Return To the MCU, Wolverine & Fan-Favorite Mutants Get a New Funko Pop Comic Cover

The MCU is about to set a new course for Avengers: Doomsday with The Fantastic Four: First Steps this month. Marvel’s first family will be featured alongside “The New Avengers” and the official original version of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. However, those aren’t the only teams coming together in the next Avengers film, as Fox’s X-Men will also reunite before the expansive shared-universe reboots them in the future. Now, with the X-Men’s return imminent, Funko has debuted their latest Mutant-centric Marvel Pop.

A part of Funko‘s expansive Pop Comic Book Cover line, their latest Marvel figure is based on X-Men #4 from 1992. This featured art by Jim Lee and was way before the iconic artist’s DC days. The cover includes Gambit, Jubilee, and Wolverine, the latter of which is battle-damaged. The figure for the set is an unmasked Wolverine, looking as angry as he does on the cover. This figure is housed in a plastic shell case that can be hung up on the wall. The comic cover is set behind the reluctant hero. This figure will be $24.99 USD. This is just the latest addition to the line, as Funko has released many Marvel Pop Comic Covers in the past centered around Wolverine’s various self-titled series as well as X-Men: Days of Future Past.

X-Men in the MCU & Beyond

The latest Marvel phases have been very mutant-heavy. After teasing their MCU role in projects like Ms. Marvel and The Marvels, the X-Men returned to the forefront on the big screen in last year’s Deadpool & Wolverine. That film not only saw major comebacks for Hugh Jackman‘s Wolverine and Ryan Reynolds‘ Deadpool, it also featured the long-awaited debut of Channing Tatum’s Gambit. That multiverse adventure served as both a love letter for the former Fox universe, and a juicy hint at the X-Men’s sprawling future.

Avengers: Doomsday will be the next major appearance for the X-Men sub-pocket of the Marvel universe. Tatum will be reprising his role as Gambit alongside X-Men legends like Patrick Stewart’s Professor X, James Marsden’s Cyclops, Alan Cumming’s Nightcrawler, Ian McKellen’s Magneto, and Kelsey Grammer’s Beast. They’ll be taking on Robert Downey Jr.’s dreaded Doctor Doom. On top of that, there’s a rumored X-Men reboot in the works at Marvel Studios that may be directed by Thunderbolts* filmmaker Jake Schreier.
