At some point, one of your favorite games could become trapped on a bygone platform. For many people, their Wii U game of choice is still not available on Switch. For From Software fans, several games are in limbo, most notably, Bloodborne.
From Software’s million-selling classic, which debuted over 10 years ago on PS4, has firmly remained there since, in native form. Despite clamoring from fans for a PC or PS5 port, or even a PS4 Pro framerate upgrade patch, Sony has remained silent on the issue. How long can that go on?
Bloodborne Is Still Trapped On PS4/PS5
No PC or Native PS5 Port In Sight
After all this time, Bloodborne remains exclusive to the PS4. While it is fully playable on PS5, it is not an enhanced upgrade; you’re still stuck with the PS4 edition of the game, along with its technical limitations and optimization methods (beyond unofficial ports). For a twitch-perfect game like Bloodborne, the primary request is an enhanced framerate.
Obviously, if From Software and Sony can work something out, we could get a fully-fledged upgraded edition of the game on newer platforms, with smoother framerates and other potential enhancements. For now, you’re going to have to deal with the PS4 version. It’s not ideal, especially as the years go on and modern tech continues to push games further.
Surely We’ll Get A Port One Day
Break Glass In Case of Emergency
Sony has been an enigmatic publisher as of late, keeping many cards close to its chest, as it remasters select first-party games and not much else. For 10 years, Bloodborne has remained a feather in the publisher’s cap, and is often held up as one of the best From Software games ever made, as well as one of the best games on the PS4 in general. At least we have a spiritual successor of sorts.
Bloodborne deserves more love, and as fans return to the game each year for big community events, it’s clear that the audience is still hungry for an updated version of the game. Hopefully, we’ll see one before the end of the PS5’s lifetime. Given Sony’s increased focus on PC, it seems likely that we could get an announcement for an enhanced Bloodborne port during any upcoming trade show.
