Blossom co-stars Meng Zi Yi and Li Yun Rui reunite for another Chinese historical drama Tigers Sniff the Rose.
Tigers Sniff the Rose is adapted from Yi Ren Kui Kui’s novel Shang Gongzhu (Princess Shang) and tells the tale of Yan Shang, a young man from a poor family in Lingnan, and Princess Mu Wan Yao of Danyang, to whom he was once betrothed. The story follows the two, who, against their differing social classes and statuses, face hardships in the midst of political turmoil.
Meng Zi Yi will play Mu Wan Yao, the daughter of the royal family. Her character transforms from a proud and noble lady into a ruthless political strategist. As the story unfolds, Mu Wan Yao faces the setback of a political marriage, eventually returning to the capital, bloodied but unrelenting, vowing to seize control of the court.
Li Yun Rui takes on the role of Yan Shang, a man of humble origins. Though he appears gentle and refined as jade, he is unmatched in wisdom and strategy. Rising against the odds as the “son of a disgraced official,” he holds fast to his ideals of “speaking for the people and eradicating injustice.”
This marks the actors’ third collaboration after Parallel World and Blossom.
According to reports, Tigers Sniff the Rose is set to begin filming in September 2025. The shoot is expected to last five months.
Set against the backdrop of the Ming dynasty, Tigers Sniff the Rose depicts how intricate power struggles spiral into chaos, pulling the main characters into a vortex of schemes and political intrigue.
Joining Meng Zi Yi and Li Yun Rui are Ken Wu, Li Xiao Qian, Shen Jia Yu, Bai Bing Ke, and Li Jia Xin, among others.
