Bollywood Directors Pick Their Favourite Films Of 2017

Sudhir Mishra: “My favourite films of 2017 in no particular order, Alankrita Shrivastava’s Lipstick Under My Burkha,  Anit Masurkar’s Newton, Avinash Das’s Anaarkali Of ArraahSaket Choudhary’s Hindi Medium,Subhashish Bhutiani’s  Mukti BhawanSubhashKapoor’s Jolly LLB 2, Vikramaditya Motwane’s Trapped and RahulDholakia’s Raees.

Gautam Ghose: “The Indian films released in  2017 are not up to the mark when compared with international standards. The exception isAmit Masurkar’s Newton a study of subaltern India. Hope 2018 will have a better  crop of Indian films portraying our intolerance and uncivilized social matrix.”

Nitesh Tiwari: “Lipstick Under My Burkha, Hindi Medium, Newton,Advait Chandan’s Secret Superstar. And  Bareilly Ki Barfi…in no particular order.”

Navdeep Singh: “Newton!”

Luv Ranjan: “The one that I really liked was Bareilly Ki Barfi”

Leena Yadav: “Tu Hai Mera Sunday

Prawal Raman: Only Shubhashish Bhutiani’s Mukhti Bhawan. This was the one film that grabbed my attention.”

Habib Faisal: “Mukti Bhawan, dealing with such a “grave” subject as death with tender irony, Newton , for its subject, themes, irony, humour, minimalistic craft and  the  meta-irony of coming out in a year where a  blockbuster election happened with the ugliest possible form of politics  on display.”

Raj Nidimoru: Haven’t seen too many. From the ones that I saw…Sandeep Venga’s Arjun Reddy  in Telugu, Mukti Bhawan, Newton,Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya, Rangoon, Sachin A Million Dreams, Lipstick Under My BurkhaBareilly Ki Barfi, and my own film co-directed with Krishan DK, A Gentleman.”

Amit Masurkar: “Watched  only a few films this year… The ones I liked are Shubh Mangal Savdhan and Omerta. The latter I watched atMAMI. But my favourite films of  the year are Hollwyood  products Lady Bird, The Florida Project, Get Out.”

Abhinay Deo:Tumhari Sulu,  Secret Superstar, Newton.”
