Brazil Records Worst World Cup Qualifying Campaign in History

The Brazilian national football team has just endured its worst-ever World Cup qualifying campaign, collecting only 28 points from 18 matches ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Brazil recorded 8 wins, 4 draws, and 6 losses, translating to a win rate of just 51.85%. For the first time in history since the South American qualifiers adopted the round-robin 10-team format, Brazil failed to reach the 30-point mark.

With 28 points, Brazil finished above only Paraguay among the teams that earned direct qualification to the 2026 World Cup. The Selecao’s tally places them behind Argentina (38 points), Ecuador (29 points), and both Colombia and Uruguay (28 points each, but with superior goal difference).

This time, the statistics look grim: only 8 wins in 18 games, 6 defeats, and a concerning 17 goals conceded.

The Selecao has not won a major international trophy since the 2019 Copa America, and their last World Cup triumph dates back to 2002 in South Korea and Japan. Once the undisputed powerhouse of world football, Brazil now faces mounting criticism over its tactics, squad development, and future direction.

As the world’s eyes turn toward the U.S., Mexico, and Canada for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the question remains: can Brazil rediscover its magic, or is the golden era of samba football truly over?
