Big breakthrough for the deadlock faced by movie theatres for new content post-lockdown . Abhishek Sharma’s comedy Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari featuring Manoj Bajpai and Dilijit Dosanjhwill release in movie theatres on November 15, two days after it streams on Zee 5.
Though this may not seem like much of a breakthrough for the crippled movie theatre business, and it is unlikely that movie patrons will step out of their homes to watch the film in movie theatres two days after its premiere on the OTT platform, the release of a new film in movie theatres after the Corvid lockdown is a healthy optimistic sign for the movie business.
While the PVR chain and the Cinepolis group have already confirmed that Suraj Pe MangalBhari will open in their theatres from November 15, the other multiplex chains are yet to make the announcement.
A PVR source told this writer, “It’s all very sudden. And we’re not yet aware of what the deal for profit-sharing between movie theatres and the digital platform is.”
