When your dad is an iconic filmmaker and actor who’s won two Academy Awards, seen Emmy Awards, and two Golden Globes, it’s understandable that you’d be eager to act in one of his films. But for Ron Howard, seeing his daughter, Bryce Dallas Howard, stepping into the world of directing with Pets, The Mandalorian, and The Book of Boba Fett has made him decide that he wants to act in one of her projects instead.

Bryce Dallas Howard Reveals Her Dad Has a Different Idea About Their Potential Collaboration

When Good Morning America (GMA) asked her what it would take to get her into one of her dad’s films, she said, “I want that so badly,” before joking that she’d been working 25 years and had yet to act in anything he directed.

“All joking aside, it would be a privilege to work with my dad, and is a dream of mine,” she continued. “But he keeps saying to me, ‘No, no no, we’ll work together when you hire me as an actor.”

This isn’t the first time Ron has talked about working for his daughter instead of the other way around. In 2022, he told Variety that if he were to return to acting, it would be because of Bryce. “It’d probably be Bryce directing something and saying, ‘Dad, I really need you to come in and do this,’ or, ‘You have to.’ Either of those would probably get me in the makeup chair and in front of the camera.”

Most recently, Ron appeared in the series The Studio. Bryce admitted she was stunned at how good he was, saying his acting was “incredible” and “brilliant.”

She Revealed She Had a Huge Crush on Joaquin Phoenix When She Was 7

Bryce spoke about how her father’s parents were actors, and he started acting at 18 months old. Because he grew up on film sets, bringing Bryce to work with him felt totally natural.

“And I was the oldest one, and after me came twins, and then my brother two years later. So my dad was like, ‘I’ll just take the older one and make this easier.’ So, as far back as I can remember, I was right there with my dad.”

“I remember putting on the alien suit for Cocoon, the mermaid tail for Splash. Parenthood was like, all kids,” she recalled about her time playing and growing up on her father’s movies.

Then, she surprised everyone by recounting one of the first boys she liked. “I had such a huge crush on someone at the time named Leaf Phoenix, who is Joaquin Phoenix. I had such a crush on him; I was like seven, and he was 12.” The two became friends and later starred together in 2004’s The Village.
