Former Hallmark star Cameron Mathison recently shared some updates on how he’s moving forward after the devastating loss of his home. Mathison’s family home, where he raised his two children with his estranged wife, Vanessa Mathison, was burned to the ground during the Pacific Palisades, California, wildfire in January.

Mathison hopes to rebuild his home, but during a new interview, he admitted the property was severely underinsured. The “Hannah Swensen Mysteries” alum noted, however, that he’s deeply grateful that they had some level of insurance, at least.

Cameron Mathison’s Family Home Wasn’t Adequately Insured

Mathison shared updates with Access Hollywood on April 8. He admitted he was “fluctuating” in how he has been doing since losing his home.

“It’s been, oddly, one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to deal with,” Mathison admitted.

He noted it’s also been “a hard thing to express to people.” Mathison explained that people “probably have an idea that it’s difficult, but it’s where I raised my kids, it’s where my kids wanted to raise their kids.”

The Hallmark alum noted that there are many factors to work through as he decides what to do next regarding the house. However, he hopes to rebuild.

Mathison shared that there are a lot of things he’s grateful for these days, including his health and that of his family. In addition, he revealed, “We did have some insurance.”

Unfortunately, he added, “We were deeply, deeply underinsured, like a lot of people. But at least we had some, and a lot of people can’t say that.”

Finding Gratitude Has Been a Priority for the Hallmark Alum Since the Wildfire

Mathison also emphasized his commitment to finding things to be grateful for while supporting others. “Things like thinking about others and working on our acceptance and compassion, whether it sounds like sort of fluff or not, it’s real,” he explained.

He added, “And it’s gonna make myself and my kids stronger people ultimately.”

Mathison also praised his “General Hospital” co-stars for the support they’ve provided. “It’s unbelievable the love and support and kindness and generosity that’s been given to myself and thousands of others going through it. The love is real,” he gushed.

On February 18, Mathison took to Instagram to give fans a brief tour of his new rental. When the fire moved quickly toward his home in January, he rushed to grab what he could.

He never expected that the family would lose everything in the fire. After discovering the house was gone, Mathison revealed he relied on the help of family, friends, and fans to help him find a new place to live while he sorted through the aftermath of the house loss.
