Chinese actor Xu Kai denies gambling allegations in formal statement

On September 8, 2025, a blogger revealed that Chinese actor Xu Kai has long been engaged in group gambling, claiming that he has a circle of hardcore card-playing friends and regularly gambles in groups, with wins and losses ranging from tens of thousands each time, totaling up to a million over the course of a year; and that his luxury residence in Hengdian has allegedly become a privately set up “casino.” The blogger also exposed a set of WeChat chat screenshots and videos showing transfer records.

The police have responded to the reports of Xu Kai engaged in gambling for a long time, stating that they have already taken notice of the matter. On the same day, the actor’s representatives issued a lawyer’s statement, claiming that the statements are untrue and announcing that they will take corresponding legal action against the infringement.

Here is the official statement:

Beijing Jincheng Tongda (Shanghai) Law Firm, commissioned by Dongyang Huanyu Film & Television Culture Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as ‘Huanyu Company’) and artist Mr. Xu Kai, appoints Lawyer Sun Jin Lin to specially issue the following attorney statement:

1. Today, the online user ‘会拍摄的百晓生’, via platforms such as Weibo and Baidu, spread and circulated claims that Mr. Xu Kai ‘has long been engaged in group gambling’ and ‘has set up a private casino,’ and cited Article 303 of the Criminal Law of the People’s Republic of China to insinuate that Mr. Xu Kai is suspected of committing a crime. 3. Our firm’s lawyers hereby warn the infringing parties in question: immediately cease all actions that infringe upon Mr. Xu Kai’s legal rights and interests, and delete any infringing content that has been posted. We kindly request the public to view online information objectively and rationally, and to avoid amplifying the negative social impact caused by false statements.
