CinemaCon 2025 Live Blog: Day 1

ScreenRant is coming to you live from CinemaCon! This annual convention for the movie theater industry is a key event for Hollywood – it’s become the place for any studio releasing movies in cinemas to present their upcoming slate, and is often where posters, trailers, and footage for hotly anticipated titles are revealed for the first time.
This year’s edition, held at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, from Monday, March 31 to Thursday, April 3, could be especially big. After the one-two punch of the pandemic and 2023’s Hollywood strikes sparked the “survive ’til 2025” mantra, theater owners need to see the film industry deliver some big hits. And the major studios will be eager to prove their 2025 slates have what it takes to revive a box office that has struggled so far this year.
Today is Day 1 of CinemaCon, and Sony Pictures Entertainment will step up to the plate as the opening night presenter. The presentation is scheduled from 6:30-8:45pm local time (9:30-11:45pm ET), so keep an eye on this space for SR‘s exclusive reporting from the ground!
11:23PM – That it’s for the Sony panel at Day 1 of CinemaCon! As a big fan of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man movies, getting the Spider-Man: Brand New Day title was definitely my favorite update of the night. CinemaCon is off to a strong start, and I look forward to seeing what else is revealed over the next few days!

Sam Mendes’ The Beatles Movies Casting & Release Window Confirmed
“A four-film cinematic event” will release in April 2028. Paul Mescal will play Paul, Joseph Quinn will play George, Barry Keoghan plays Ringo, and Harris Dickinson plays John.
11:18PM – After the cliffhanger of Spider-Man: No Way Home that we’ve been left on for several years now, I’m glad we finally have a title and release date! Despite the Brand New Day subtitle indicating a soft reboot, I hope we still see a lot of the same characters and cast from the MCU’s previous Spider-Man movies.

The MCU’s Spider-Man 4 Title Revealed
It will be called Spider-Man: Brand New Day and will be released on July 31, 2026.

Karate Kid: Legends Trailer
First scene: Li opens his door at home and finds the window open. He looks around but doesn’t see anyone. “Mom?” he calls out. Then someone attacks him with a pot. They start fighting in the kitchen. The scene takes place at night and is quite dark in his kitchen. The attacker kicks Li into a light switch, turning the lights on and off, and back on. “Now you see me, huh?” Mr. Han jokes. Li’s mom comes home.
Second scene: Mr. Han visits Miyagi-Do’s dojo in California. He knocks on the door, “Hello?” He sees no one so he walks in and sees Miyagi’s photo on the wall. “Hello, old friend. It’s been a long time.” Daniel walks in and asks if Mr. Han knew Miyagi. Mr. Han says, “I did not come looking for Sensei Miyagi. I came looking for you.” He shows Daniel a photo of him and Miyagi from the dojo in 1985. Mr. Han knew of Daniel all this time. He wants Daniel to come to New York to train Li on “Miyagi karate.”
The trailer opens on a dojo with Li and Mr. Han. Then it shows Li and his mother moving to New York. Li wants to join a dojo, but his mom won’t allow it. A bully fights Li and beats him up. Mr. Han wants Li to learn how to fight so he doesn’t end up like Li’s brother — assuming something bad happened. Mr. Han then goes to California to find Daniel LaRusso and bring him to New York. All three of them meet, and Daniel says, “Let’s make a karate kid.” We see them all train, with Li learning kung fu and karate — two branches, same tree. The final fight appears to take place on a mat on top of a skyscraper.
11:01PM – As much as I enjoy Macchio and Jackie Chan, I am most looking forward to seeing Ben Wang in Karate Kid: Legends. He gave a great performance in American Born Chinese, a Disney+ series that shouldn’t have been canceled after one season.
10:58PM – Ralph Macchio and Ben Wang came on stage ahead of two new scenes and trailer being shown for Karate Kid: Legends.

I Know What You Did Last Summer Trailer
Opens on a couple in a house, with the girl going upstairs to draw a bath. The guy is back downstairs, cleaning up the kitchen. He hears something outside, doesn’t see anything, then goes back inside… and gets stabbed by a hook. The killer then shoots him with a spear gun and drags him across the floor. We see a “Welcome to Southport” sign. Then several shots of the new cast in peril situations, and then a foggy window with the written text, “You’re next.” “This isn’t the first time there’s been violence like this in Southport,” Freddie Prinze Jr.’s character says at a town hall. “I just have one question… what did you do last summer?” Jennifer Love Hewitt asks.
10:48PM – Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell are phenomenal actors, and A Big Beautiful Journey sounds like it will be a thought-provoking story. I will definitely be checking it out, although their pairing now makes me wish we could see their versions of Harley Quinn and Penguin in a scene together.

A Big Beautiful Journey Trailer
Opens on dozens of umbrellas. Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell’s characters meet at that moment. Colin’s character’s name is David. He’s driving on the road and his AI/voice-assistant in the car asks him if he wants to go on a big, bold beautiful journey. He says yes, and it sends him to pick up Sarah, Margot’s character. Together they go on a drive, and they find an arched door in the middle of the forest with a red door. They go through it. They go through several more doors that take them through their memories throughout their lives. One of them is of David’s high school years, including a moment when he told a girl he loved her. “Relive your past…Change your future,” a splash says. We then see snippets of them exploring different times in their lives.
10:34PM – Zach Cregger says that the next Resident Evil “movie I’m going to make…is unlike any of the previous [adaptations]…It’s a story that follows one central protagonist from point A to point B as they descend into hell.” A change from previous adaptations might be exactly what this franchise needs.
10:28PM – I’m so happy that Beyond the Spider-Verse has a release date! I’m perfectly fine with waiting for 2027 if it means the animation and story will be as satisfying as in the previous movies.

Beyond the Spider-Verse Release Date Revealed
The animated franchise’s next installment is releasing June 4, 2027.

The trailer opens up on three guys in military gear in a dark room, with one zombie popping out at them. Next we see an island, with a voiceover saying, “many people dead… infected and non-infected alike.” “Once you walk onto that mainland, there’s no rescue.” We see Aaron-Taylor Johnson and a boy running away from about a dozen infected. Then the military guys again, but this time during the day, also running away from the infected. We see several dozen scenes of people fighting and running from infected. Lots of it seems to take place around the island and near water. Throughout the trailer, splash pages read: “How Much Time…Do We…Have Left?”
10:13PM – 28 Years Later is the first movie up, with Danny Boyle coming up to the stage!
10:08PM – Paul Rudd and Jack Black are talking on a recording from the set of Anaconda as they introduce a sneak peek of the film. Rudd and Black are still two of the funniest actors out there, which is enough to get me excited for Anaconda!
9:30PM – CinemaCon is officially underway! No photos or videos are allowed this year, so all updates are text only.
