On March 28, Chinese media outlet Sohu reported on the growing public outrage over the mishandling of artists’ safety on the set of Keep Running, the Chinese version of Running Man. The controversy stemmed from the incident involving Yuqi, who is a part of the show’s main cast.

In a widely circulated video on social media, Yuqi was seen collapsing to the ground during a marathon challenge late at night on March 27. She remained on the ground for approximately four minutes.

As seen in the video, the filming continued as usual, and despite Yuqi’s apparent physical distress, no medical assistance was provided. This indifference shown by the show’s production team sparked huge concern among viewers, and the video started trending on Weibo, China’s biggest social media platform.

Many netizens criticized Keep Running for its failure to learn from past tragedies, notably the shocking death of actor Godfrey Gao during the filming of Chase Me in 2019. Gao had collapsed from exhaustion after participating in a series of physically demanding challenges late at night while filming. Despite the clear signs of distress, the crew kept filming without assessing his condition, leading to a fatal delay in medical intervention.

Yuqi took to her social media to update fans on her condition as the controversy grew. She stated that the video was taken when she was completely exhausted after running with all her energy to finish the challenge, and she had laid down on the ground only to rest for a bit.

While fans were reassured by Yuqi’s post, it didn’t stop the criticism against Keep Running‘s production team for disregarding the safety of its cast members. The show has yet to address the issue.
