Leap of fate, or just a freak of nature? Anees Bazmi’s Mubarakan has become the surprise hit of the week.
Trade guru Taran Adarsh reports , the film opened on Friday at 5.16 crore rupees. On Saturday the collections had grown to 7.38 crores. And on Sunday the collections had leapt to a whopping 10.37 crores. The growth at the boxoffice from Friday to Sunday was staggering 100.97 percent.
And now within the shortest span of time possible the Mubarakanteam is ready do a sequel to Mubarakan.
That’s right. The irrepressible boisterousness of a Punjabi-London joint-family will reunite the real-life uncle and nephew Anil Kapoorand Arjun Kapoor and most of the rest of the vast cast.
Director Anees Bazmi could barely contain his excitement. “Yes, we are going to go ahead with a sequel to Mubarakan. The characters have been so unconditionally embraced by the audience. Jee haan, thoda sa waqt lagaa raftaar pakadne mein(the film took a bit of time to catch on). That was because this was comedy without vulgarity. We don’t have that any more in Hindi cinema. Family comedies died with Hrishikesh Mukherjee.”
