No anime movies have quite as much hype behind them as Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 2 and Part 3, which is why fans are eagerly anticipating any news for release dates. Though nothing has officially been announced, Crunchyroll’s CEO just dropped an update on the future of Demon Slayer, and it’s unfortunately not what fans had hoped to hear.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter to celebrate Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1’s unprecedented success in North America, Crunchyroll CEO Rahul Purini was asked about the release date for the movie’s sequels. To the disappointment of many, Purini confirmed that Aniplex and Ufotable have yet to decide on a release date.
Well, we’ve announced that it will be a trilogy of movies, but our partners at Aniplex and Ufotable haven’t decided on dates yet. But look, there’s definitely urgency for all of us to bring more Demon Slayer to fans as soon as we can — because we know the urgency is there among the fanbase.
Crunchyroll’s First Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 2 Update Is Bigger Than It Seems
On its surface, Purini’s comment appears like it doesn’t reveal much of anything about the potential release date for Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle’s sequels. Digging a little deeper, however, the wording is interesting. Purini doesn’t say that Aniplex and Ufotable haven’t revealed the release dates; he specifically states that they haven’t decided on release dates.
Purini’s wording implies that Aniplex and Ufotable are still deciding on the best release dates for the two sequels to the highest-grossing anime movie of all time. While fans seem locked in to 2027 and 2029 as potential release dates for Infinity Castle Parts 2 and 3, it’s telling that Crunchyroll, Aniplex, and Ufotable aren’t so certain.
Beyond that potentially interesting implication, there is also Purini’s mention of urgency. Infinity Castle is already a cultural phenomenon in both Japan and the United States, so it’s obvious why Crunchyroll wants to capitalize on the high demand for more Demon Slayer. Until Aniplex and Ufotable set dates, though, the anime streaming giants’ hands are tied.
So, When Will Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Parts 2 and 3 Release?
It’s anyone’s guess when Infinity Castle Parts 2 and 3 will release, but there are two likely candidates. The sequels will probably either be released in 2026 and 2027, or in 2027 and 2029.
The case for 2026 and 2027 is simple. Demon Slayer has had at least one new season of anime released every year since 2021. While a movie isn’t quite the same thing, the historical precedent does make this seem plausible.
Hurting this theory, however, is the lack of an official release date announcement for Part 2. If Part 2’s release was only a year away, it is odd that Aniplex and Ufotable wouldn’t have announced something already.
Given this and the high quality of Infinity Castle Part 1, it seems far more likely that the film releases will be staggered. This not only prolongs the life of a franchise with very little sequel potential, but also gives the production team more time to make these films as impressive as possible.
Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle is nothing short of a revolution for cinema, and fans are sure to cheer as soon as more information about Parts 2 and 3 is released. For now, however, Crunchyroll’s latest Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 2 release date comments hint that fans may have to wait a little while longer for the conclusion to Tanjiro’s story.
